SQUID GAME

Hi guys, today I would like to talk to you about Squid Game the latest Netflix series I saw. This series is right now among the most popular shows on the streaming platform all over the world. It is about 456 people who, having a lot of debt, agree to participate in a game that promises to give the winner 46,000,000,000.

                                     

 MAIN CHARACTERS

 Gi- hun

A divorced man trying to get the money to save his sick mother, and to have custody of his daughter who is about to move to America with her mother and stepfather.

 

 Kang Sae-beyock

A girl of about twenty who is participating to get her brother out of an orphanage, and to be able to leave in South Korea with her mother.

 

 Cho Sang-woo

An old friend of Gi-hun who is wanted by the police. And must find the money to return to customers    that he stole after his company shut down. 

 Jaon Deok-su

A criminal who has to pay a lot of money back to some Filipino men who want him dead.

  

Han Mi-nyeo

A young mother who after allying herself with Deok-su and having been betrayed swears to take herself  her revenge by killing him.

 Abdul Ali

A Pakistani guy who after working for months and not having been paid decides to participate to find the money to be able to return with his wife and child to Afghanistan.

 

Oh Il-nam

A man who has a brain tumor. He decided to participate in the game because he has nothing to lose.           

        

 HOW DOES THE GAME WORK?

The game is divided into 6 tests that once passed will lead to victory, but if you do not respect one of the rules of each trial you will be eliminated (killed!) and you will not be able to play again.

 

1. FAIRY FOOTSTEPS

 

    

The first test is the infamous fairy footsteps game. In order to win you just need not move when the doll turns.  But if you happen to move when it is turned you will be aimed at and killed by a sniper rifle.  After this test the players go from 456 to 255 because until that moment none of them knew that they would risk their lives; so, when the first player was killed many players tried to escape and for this reason they were also killed.

 

2. EXTRACT A FIGURE

                              

In the second test the goal is to extract a figure chosen before knowing the game with a needle and without being able to use lighters, cutlery and more.In this test there will be many eliminated and also a twist, because one of the players before committing suicide, after breaking the figure, he threatens a guard and forced him to take off his mask. The guard will then be killed because he broke the rule of not revealing his face.

 

3. TUG OF WAR                                          

                                          

In this test 8 teams of 10 people had to be formed which would then have to face a tug of war.  In this challenge, Gi-hun's team of 8 men and 2 women must play against a team of only men. At first they are losing but then they manage to overturn the game and save themselves.

 

4. THE MARBLES

                                       

 

In the fourth test, pairs had to be formed. They choose their best friend, ut once they start the game they understand that the goal is to take the 10 marbles from your partner. This mean that one of the 2 would have to die. In this game you could choose the rules, but you couldn’t use violence.  In my opinion this was the saddest episode, because many characters I liked died, among them, Sae-beyok's teammate.

 5. THE GLASS BRIDGE

                                              

 

The 5th and penultimate test is a glass bridge.  Before knowing what the test is about the 16 remaining players have to choose a number from 1 to 16 which would represent the starting order.  In this test 13 people die including Ha mi-nyeo who takes his revenge and throws himself down taking Jaon Deok-su with him.  The only ones who will be saved will be Gi-hun, Sang-woo and Sea-beyok who are killed the next morning by Sang-woo.

6 . THE SQUID GAME

 

Gi-hun and Sang-woo did the last test, the squid game.  For the first time violence is admitted; instead of respecting the rules of the game, they will try to kill each other with a knife.  After a first fight Gi-hun is about to lose but manages to knock Sang-woo to the ground and manages to block him.

 The trial ends when Gi-hun manages to forgive his old friend for killing Sea-beyong, but Sang-woo grabs a knife and kills himself, leaving the victory to Gi-hun.

 

CONCLUSIONS

I find this series so cool, don’t you? Have you seen it? I think you should. So many emotions, twists and turns! I personally can’t wait for a second season.
