FAREWELL, GREAT CHAMPION

DAVIDE ASTORI

The world of football, not only Italian football, is still shocked and mourning a young champion and a great  human being.  On 4th March 2018 Davide Astori, 31,  suddenly and unexpectedly died in his sleep in a hotel in Udine, the day before the match Udinese vs Fiorentina. His death was caused by a cardiac arrest  as  determined by an autopsy conducted two days later. Both Serie A and Serie B matches scheduled for the 4th  March were postponed.

UEFA announced on ‘Twitter’ that a minute of silence had to be observed before every European match scheduled for that week. His death was a real shock for his mates, his friends and, of course his family.  His ex team-mate Carlos Sanchez collapsed to the ground after hearing the news of his death. In honour to Davide Astori both Cagliari and Fiorentina  retired number 13 which was Astori’s.

READING THE NEWSPAPERS

Teenagers usually don’t like reading the newspaper - or reading in general -  but if you want to enrich your vocabulary reading is very useful. We tried this activity in pairs during one of our recent lessons: our teacher brought real English newspapers and we leafed through the pages in search of interesting news or curiosities. Our task was writing down a summary of the article giving the reasons why we had chosen it . It was quite useful and here are the results of our work in pairs.

This year the Olympic Winter Games will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea and they will be from 9th to 25th of February.

LEWIS HAMILTON

Happy Sunday, everyone! Today it's F1 day and we are ready to celebrate Hamilton. Yes, because, as you will surely know, he is the new  F1 World Champion with 2 races remaining. He was in competition with Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari’s first driver and Valterri Bottas, his teammate in Mercedes. This is his fourth world title after 2008, 2014 and 2015.  So far this year he has won 9 races collecting 333 points, while his principal rival, Vettel, has 277 points.

Stadiums are very important for football teams because they are   “home” for supporters and players. Many of them are famous for the atmosphere created by fans or for their history. A supporter knows that to see a match at the stadium is better than at home, because emotions are greater.

We've also got a favourite biker to support, Valentino Rossi, and we hope he can be successful this year too. He is a real fighter, he will not let his younger opponents win easily. NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND

It is a weekend festival held every February during the middle of the NBA regular season. During this weekend there are many basketball events, exhibitions and performances.

The most important event is the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night.

CHRISTIAN DE SICA

De Sica is an Italian actor, director and scriptwriter. He was born on 5th January 1951 in Rome, Italy. His father, Vittorio, was an important director so he decided to follow him in the world of the cinema. De Sica developed his own style of comedy and entertainment in Rai television shows. He started acting in 1972 with “Paulina 1880”.

WINTER SPORTS

With the coming of the cold and the snow we have decided to write a post about winter sports. Traditionally these sports are played in cold areas (Alpine countries, North America, Japan and North Europe) during winter, but sometimes if there isn’t snow and ice, they are played on artificial snow and artificial ice. So, thanks to technology many countries can host the winter Olympic Games and other competitions.

On the  9th January  “The Best Fifa Football Awards” 2016  took place in Zurich, Switzerland.

THE GOLDEN BALL

The Golden Ball is a football award instituted in 1956 by a sport French magazine called France Football. Every year it is assigned to the best footballer who plays for an European club. To win this award you must be strong and you must win a competition with your team.

SPORTS DURING THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

Many sports during Christmas holidays will stop, but if you are a sport fan you don’t have to be worried because there are many sport events to watch on TV. The majority of football championships (Serie A,Ligue one,Bundesliga and Liga), Formula 1, Moto GP and tennis tournaments stop in this period. Instead, Premier League, Serie B, rugby, basketball and horse racing continue.

TWO SPORTS & TWO CHAMPIONS

Hifriends! In this post we want talk about two sports and two champions  These sportsaren’t as popular as football  in Italy  but we like them and we would like to share our interest with you.

BASKETBALL

In Italian we call it Basket, short for what in English is basketball. It is a team sport where there are two 5 – player teams.

You have to use only your hands to score a point in the rival basket.

Basketball  was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, a Canadian P.E. teacher.

Now it is played all over the world, even though it is extremely popular in the  U.S.A.

WE LOVE FOOTBALL

We are Alex T. and Luca and we love football!!! 

Football is the most popular sport in the world and it is a team sport. The target is to kick a ball with one of the feet to score a goal. It was invented by the English during the nineteenth century.

In our opinion football, in addition to being a beautiful sport,  allows you to meet new people and make new friends.

As a matter of fact,  we two met on a football field, during our training sessions, when we were children.
