THE INCREDIBLE FINAL OF 2022 WORLD CUP

On December 18 2022, the final of the World Cup was played and, let's face it, we saw things we've never seen before...

This tournament began on November 20th and accompanied us for four long weeks when we witnessed spectacular action both on and off the pitch: just remember the great gesture of the Japanese fans who, before leaving after the game, cleaned up the whole stadium.

LIONEL MESSI’S BISHT

Argentina has just won the World Cup. Messi is ready to raise the cup that any football fan dreams of. But ... wait! The Emir covers the Argentine captain with a black cape, the Bisht. That's rather weird.  So I start wondering what that piece of clothing is or means. Do you know?  I'll tell you about it soon, but first, let's step back for a while.

THE AMBITIOUS DREAM OF A SUPER LEAGUE

The European Super League is the project for a new competition involving 20 clubs, 15 permanent clubs, the Founding Clubs, and 5 others that would be selected each year according to the results achieved in the previous season in their respective local leagues. That means a league reserved only to the best of the best.

LUKA MODRIC: THE CHAMPION WHO CAME FROM THE WAR

His name was Luka Modric, he wasn’t a footballer but a shepherd. The war in Yugoslavia had just began and one day in December 1991 the Serbian rebels found and killed him because he was Croatian. That same day his son, Stipe Modric, moved with the whole family to Zara. At the age of six, his eldest son Luka, same name as his grandfather, was starting a new life as a war refugee. Twenty-seven years later, that child is one of the strongest footballers in the world: Luka Modric winner of the Balon d'Or.

DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA: FAREWELL TO THE BEST.

Yesterday I was thinking about something to write about for or blog when, surfing the Net, breaking news titled: Maradona’s death.

Personally, I’ve never seen him play but, just by watching his videos on YouTube, you can feel his magic with the ball at his feet.

Since I love football, I thought I’d write an article in his honour because he is the player who first made me fall in love with football. So, here we go!

THE MYTH OF ANFIELD

Anfield is a football stadium built in 1884 in Liverpool. Anfield could be considered a stadium like many others but that isn’t true.
Today  the Reds play football in Anfield Stadium and if we go back in time we can understand that Anfield isn’t only a stadium but also an amazing  legend.
Liverpool F.C, founded in 1892, has always been a great team and it has a great history, of which the stadium is the “main character”.

LEICESTER DREAMED BIG!

Hi everyone! This is James.  Welcome back to our blog! How are you? I'm fine, I expected this return to school to be more difficult, but luckily everything is fine, I'm ready for the “second half" of the school year! Last Saturday I was watching the Premier League match Leicester-Southampton, and the winning-title season by Leicester in 2015/16 came back to my mind, probably the best achievement for the small club in recent years. Let's find out more!

THE DARK SIDE OF FOOTBALL

Every sport has its legends, icons and a dark side that people don’t know. Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are famous basket players, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are tennis legends. Soccer has its own icons too,  like Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi, but all of these sports have a hidden side that are not as popular as their bright side. We think that the life of a football player is easy: stellar salaries, Ferraris, big houses and expensive holidays and many of us think that they are heroes or aliens.

LIONEL MESSI: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, NO MATTER WHAT

Hi guys! Welcome back to our blog! How are you? I'm fine, I'm ready for this new year and, to be honest, I missed all of this. I can't wait to create new contents for our blog during all this year, and to support all of my  blog mates. We are a team, guys, aren't we? For this new October’s post, I decided to talk about one of the best footballers ever: last year I wrote about Cristiano Ronaldo, but today I would like to talk about “la Pulga"(his nickname, how Spanish people usually call him during matches), Lionel Messi!

SERIE A 2017/18

The Italian football championship is one of the best leagues in Europe with Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga. A few years ago, Serie A was the best championship in Europe with the best players in the world. Now, Italian football is not like before because other leagues like La Liga and Premier League have teams with money so they can afford to buy better players. The only team which is at the same level as the other big European teams is Juventus, indeed it's no coincidence if it won the last seven championships…  But now Serie A, taking its time, is returning to the top.

FIFA WORLD CUP 2018: PITY WE WERE NOT THERE!

Are you an avid football fan? If you are, you’ll love reading our first post for LET’S BLOG!   We are great football fans, so we’ve chosen to start writing about FIFA World Cup.

FIFA World Cup is the biggest football tournament. There are 32 national teams competing and it takes place every four years.
Brazil national team won the cup five times, while Italy and Germany “just” four times.
2014 FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil. During the tournament Germany played against Argentina. The victory-goal was scored by Mario Gotze during the extra time after taking Miroslav Klose place, that was the best world cup goal scorer of all time.

FAREWELL, GREAT CHAMPION

DAVIDE ASTORI

The world of football, not only Italian football, is still shocked and mourning a young champion and a great  human being.  On 4th March 2018 Davide Astori, 31,  suddenly and unexpectedly died in his sleep in a hotel in Udine, the day before the match Udinese vs Fiorentina. His death was caused by a cardiac arrest  as  determined by an autopsy conducted two days later. Both Serie A and Serie B matches scheduled for the 4th  March were postponed.
UEFA announced on ‘Twitter’ that a minute of silence had to be observed before every European match scheduled for that week. His death was a real shock for his mates, his friends and, of course his family.  His ex team-mate Carlos Sanchez collapsed to the ground after hearing the news of his death. In honour to Davide Astori both Cagliari and Fiorentina  retired number 13 which was Astori’s.

FOOTBALL MANIA: THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPPORTERS & BEST STADIUMS

Do you often watch football or other sports on TV?
If your answer is YES, and you usually watch  football on tv, you know that supporters are the twelfth man in the field.
Supporters push the team to victory with stadium chants, thunders and choreographies.
Usually we think that just the most important teams have fascinating supporters, but this is not true.

DISCOVERING FOOTBALL STADIUMS

Stadiums are very important for football teams because they are   “home” for supporters and players. Many of them are famous for the atmosphere created by fans or for their history. A supporter knows that to see a match at the stadium is better than at home, because emotions are greater.

TOTTI’S DAY: FAREWELL, CAPTAIN!

Last Sunday many Italian people watched Totti's tears  during his last ride around the football field as    ''Roma's Captain''. ''Time has come'' Totti said in a post-match speech, from the centre of the pitch, in front of almost 60,000 fans inside the 'Stadio Olimpico'

The weeping of ''er Pupone'' (Italian people call him  this way) was accompanied by the soundtrack of the movie  ''The Gladiator''; his hug to his children, The King Lion song,  Ennio Moricone's music, Francesco Totti's  close-up face on the giant screen and when the songs by Antonello Venditti started from the speakers of the Olimpic Stadium, we were all in tears.

PREMIERE SKILLS ENGLISH

Hi friends!

Today I would like to share with all of you my enthusiasm for the extraordinary discovery that I made some days ago. No, I didn’t find a new gold mine, unfortunately… but, if culture matters,   - why not? – I’ve found something even better.

CLAUDIO RANIERI AND HIS BREAK WITH LEICESTER

Football fans and footballers, what do you think about Leicester Club’s decision to sack Claudio Ranieri? In my opinion Leicester Club has been truly unfair  dismissing him,  despite the team’s performances and   results in Premier League. Mr Ranieri  is a wonderful,  excellent coach! In my opinion he is one of the best coaches in the world but, unfortunately,  though he is being great, he can’t be … divine. Any coach can make mistakes and can have a bad  season but that doesn’t mean you can simply dismiss him and forget everything he did till that moment.
