LIONEL MESSI: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, NO MATTER WHAT

Hi guys! Welcome back to our blog! How are you? I'm fine, I'm ready for this new year and, to be honest, I missed all of this. I can't wait to create new contents for our blog during all this year, and to support all of my  blog mates. We are a team, guys, aren't we? For this new October’s post, I decided to talk about one of the best footballers ever: last year I wrote about Cristiano Ronaldo, but today I would like to talk about “la Pulga"(his nickname, how Spanish people usually call him during matches), Lionel Messi!

Lionel was born on 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. He developed a passion for sport from an early age, playing constantly with his older brothers and cousins. He started playing football in his hometown's team, but when he was 10 he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, to cure which cost at least $1.000 per month.
When Messi moved with his family to Catalonia and stayed with some relatives, he was scouted by Barcelona's first team director Charly Rexach, that offered him a contract on a paper napkin, with no other paper at hand. When he finished his hormone treatment aged 14, he started to play in all competitions and to become, during the years, a starting eleven player for Barcelona.

When he started to be considered one of the best footballers, he frequently was compared to his compatriot Diego Maradona. Then in 2009 he won his first FIFA Ballon d'Or, and he won others in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015.
Nowadays, Leo is still a Barcelona player despite he received a lot of offers from different clubs, one above all from Manchester City. The English club recently offered to the Argentine football star a 5-year-contract with a net annual wage of €50m (£43.9m), but he refused, because he only wants to play for Barcelona, where his wage is about €35m. Not bad Leo!
With Barcelona, Messi won a lot of titles: in Spain, he won ×10 La Liga titles, ×6 Copa del Rey and ×8 Supercopa de España. Instead in Europe he won ×4 UEFA Champions League, ×3 UEFA Super Cup and ×3 FIFA Club World Cup. Despite his trophies, one of the best achievements ever was obtained by Leo in 2012: when he was only 24, he became the top goalscorer in Barcelona's history, overtaking the 57-year record of Cèsar Rodríguez’s 232 goals with a hat-trick against Granada, on 20 March.

Of course, Messi also plays for his national team Argentina, but he didn’t win a lot of trophies: in his country (I don't know how that's possible!) a lot of people hate him for his performances with Argentina.
But he still can do something to change that situation and improve, can’t he?

In Italy, Messi is considered as an example for everyone who wants to become a footballer despite all odds(see health problems): the Italian writer Roberto Saviano wrote about him in one of his books, describing him as a hornet: these animals can't fly due to their structure, but they don’t know it and they still fly.  Messi couldn’t play football due to his little body, but… you know how the story ends!
This was my first post for the new school year! Share it with your friends and leave a comment…feedback  is very important!
And, of course, don’t forget to see also the other posts by my  blogmates.  See you in November, bye!!!

Giacomo
