READING THE CATCHER IN THE RYE

Eugenio: Holden, rebellious but highly sensitive

Holden Caufield, the protagonist of J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, is well-known for his rebellious attitude. After reading the excerpt from the 1951 novel, The Phoniness of the World, the reader can understand the sixteen-year-old boy’s spirit: although he embodies the typical teenage behaviour, he is highly sensitive.

READING THE NEWSPAPERS

Teenagers usually don’t like reading the newspaper - or reading in general -  but if you want to enrich your vocabulary reading is very useful. We tried this activity in pairs during one of our recent lessons: our teacher brought real English newspapers and we leafed through the pages in search of interesting news or curiosities. Our task was writing down a summary of the article giving the reasons why we had chosen it . It was quite useful and here are the results of our work in pairs.

BILLIONS, TRICKS AND DEALS!

Supercars, luxurious houses, swimming pools, helicopters and private jets: everyone would like to have these properties and enjoy them. The question is: do money and riches make you happy?

NETFLIX: BINGE WATCHING (AND LEARNING ENGLISH) HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER!

Teenagers have a good reason not to study: in fact a new on demand platform has become more and more popular since it was launched in 1997 in California, USA.

We are just joking: boys and girls should study, but after spending some time on school books, they could rest on their sofa while watching a good TV series or a movie, in English to improve their competence or in Italian if they are not good enough.

ANALYZING THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 7

Dear fans of The Walking Dead, unfortunately the seventh season is over! As you can see, I love this TV series. This is not my first post, if you remember. I also wrote an article back in October with my mate Alessandro S. (HERE). I can remember my feelings when the seventh season was going to start: the best season ever, they said.

BREAKING BAD: A-PLUS FOR CHEMISTRY!

As I said in a recent post, Breaking Bad is one of the best TV series I’ve watched in my life and it is very popular in my country. I know I should have introduced it to you before my previous article about Better Call Saul, but I’m sure you’ll forgive me…

THE BEST LAWYER IN THE WORLD!

“Better call Saul!” . This renowned slogan is going to be pronounced in a few days (11th April 2017) by Saul Goodman, or better Jim McGill during the third season of Better Call Saul, the only spin- off of Breaking Bad!

But, what is a spin-off? And what about Breaking Bad?

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS - LITERALLY!

A few weeks ago Netflix released a new TV series called “A Series Of Unfortunate Events”. It has already been renewed for a second season, which will premier in 2018.

It is based on the namesake novels written by Lemony Snicket.

VIKINGS: TATTOOS AND MUSCLES

Hi guys! We are back to tell you about this awesome TV series, Vikings. You can guess it is about the blonde, tall and fierce warriors who lived in Denmark and Scandinavia if you studied them at school like us.

WAYWARD PINES: THE LAST VILLAGE ON EARTH!

What would you do if the World was in danger?

OUR BAKER STREET BOYS!

Who does not know Sherlock Holmes? The famous detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle’s pen revolutionized our lives. We read Doyle’s books and we watched movies and TV series inspired by his stories.

2 BROKE GIRLS

Hi guys! Today we’re going to tell you about a very popular sitcom called “2 broke girls”.

It is an American sitcom created for Warner Bros Television by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings. It premiered in September 2011 in the USA.

Two best friends, Max and Caroline, work in a cafeteria in the neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York City and they would like to start a cupcake business.

They live in poverty, but Caroline grew up in a billionaire family!

NARCOS: THE HUGE EMPIRE OF EVIL & TV SUCCESS

We’ve watched it recently and it is really breathtaking! What a TV series!

It’s not only us who are saying that. Narcos is believed to be one of the best television series of  its genre. How many seasons are there?

Unfortunately only two, but the producers have already confirmed that season 3 and 4 are going to be launched. To be honest we think that the first season is more thrilling than the second, because it tells about the rise of Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria, who was one of the most powerful narco-trafficker in history. The narrative is set in Colombia, more specifically in Medellin and Bogotà.

JUVENTUS: A BAD CHOICE!

Hi guys,  happy Sunday and... welcome to the football world!

Juventus Football Club is one of the best football teams in Europe at the moment, thanks to years of great achievements and a brilliant team.

We are two wild-eyed Juventus supporters and today we would like to tell you about an event which shocked the majority of us fans: the substitution of our wonderful emblem.

In fact, the management has recently announced that starting from 2017/2018 season the old logo will be replaced by a brand-new emblem.

JANUARY 2017 - NEW TERRORIST ATTACKS

Unfortunately, terrorists who in most cases are related to ISIS,  which is recognized by media as a terroristic group, have already hit MORE THAN ONCE in this new year: I would say a bad way to inaugurate 2017.

The first terrorist attack was planned in Istanbul just on New Year’s Eve, an act who reminds us of The Bataclan slaughtering in Paris.

The method used for these two attacks is practically the same: sure enough they shoot at the crowd in a public area, killing and wounding the mass and diffusing terror.

BEWARE!!! THE VIDEOS BELOW CAN BE TRULY SHOCKING!

How did they act? They hit the Christmas Markets with a 7-tonne truck. In the truck there were two men: one was found dead, the other would have jumped out and fled on foot.

THE SIMPSONS

The Simpsons are a cult cartoon series popular all over the world. The Simpsons  were  created by cartoonist Matt Groening U.S. at the end of the 80s for the Fox Broadcasting Company. Set in a fictional town called Springfield, the show is humorous in many aspects of the human condition; it is a satirical parody of society and the American lifestyle epitomized by its protagonist family, which consists of Homer, Marge and their three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
