FIFA WORLD CUP 2018: PITY WE WERE NOT THERE!

Are you an avid football fan? If you are, you’ll love reading our first post for LET’S BLOG!   We are great football fans, so we’ve chosen to start writing about FIFA World Cup.                                                                                                                          

FIFA World Cup is the biggest football tournament. There are 32 national teams competing and it takes place every four years. 

Brazil national team won the cup five times, while Italy and Germany “just” four times.

2014 FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil. During the tournament Germany played against Argentina. The victory-goal was scored by Mario Gotze during the extra time after taking Miroslav Klose place, that was the best world cup goal scorer of all time.

This year the world cup took place in Russia.  It was the first world cup without Italy since 1958. Neverthless, it was a fantastic event with incredible players competing, like Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo, Griezmann, Modric, Mbappe. We were sorry we could not see my National team compete among the best ones!

The tournament started on 14^thJune with opening match Russia vs Saudi Arabia and ended on 15^thJuly with France vs Croatia. The winner was  France.

 The world cup is the most viewed football competition. It has been watched by people whose National teams didn’t qualify for it, too. Lots of talented players were on the fields, so you couldn’t get bored!

Just to mention one of them,  Luka Modric, the Croatian captain, was nominated best players of the tournament. In our opinion Modric played very well, he scored a lot of important goals for his team, and provided also a lots of assists. We admire him!

There was also the best young player: Kylian Mbappe. He is only 19  and his role is wing or striker. He has terrific technical skills and ball control. Many people think he’ll become one of the best players in the world.  You know, it’s not that common to win a world cup at 19 years old! 

For two of the best players it wasn’t a good competition. Do you know who we are talking about? Obviously, Messi and Ronaldo.  

Ronaldo started his tournament against Spain scoring a hat trick: first goal with a penalty, second one making a nutmeg to the goalkeeper and third one with a freekick. Despite his beginning,  he did not play well in the rest of the tournament. Portugal was eliminated in the last sixteen by Uruguay.

Lionel Messi played in the same way as his rival,  Ronaldo. His first match against Iceland finished 1-1, then he lost 3-0 against Croatia , and won the last match of the group stage against Nigeria when he scored an outstanding goal. Argentina was eliminated by France in the last sixteen.

We certainly watched an amazing world cup this year, there’s no doubt, but without our National, which team should we have supported? It was difficult to decide. What about you?
