SOPHIA LOREN: YESTERDAY, TODAY & TOMORROW

What do you think if I say “Italy”? I am sure you’ll start thinking about  pizza, spaghetti, good food and …opera? So I’ll just say: SOPHIA LOREN!

Sophia Loren was born in Rome in 1934. In 1950, she was selected as one of the finalists of MISS ITALIA but she did not win. How was that possible? She deserved more! She was not only a beautiful face, she was a great woman!

“I think the quality of sexiness comes from within. It is something that is in you”

She started appearing in several bit parts and minor roles in the early 50s. Her first starring role was in Aida (1953), for which she received critical acclaim. In 1960, she starred in Vittorio De Sica's “Two Women”.
She won 22 international awards for “Two Women”. The film was extremely well accepted by the critics and it was a huge hit at the box office.

In the 1960s, Sofia Loren became one of the most popular actresses in the world.

“Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” (1963) ,with Marcello Mastroianni, is absolutely my favourite movie.

She looks so beautiful, incredible and different.

She became a heroine because she represented a sort of renaissance in the years after the war: WOMEN HAD POWER.

Men had surrendered to women’s charm, capacities and sensuality. Women could be the perfect mixture between angels and demons.

She  still is an icon of beauty all over the world because she is different. What makes her so sexy was her being a real woman: pretty, talented and true. Cheeky without being rude.
She was witty, passionate and endearing, not to mention remarkably beautiful. The proclaimed ‘Italian Marilyn Monroe’ was a curvaceous, caramel-skinned brunette bombshell and she was not skinny.

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.”

Despite requests from many directors, Sophia refused to lose weight, get a nose job, or change her appearance for a role.  Doing this, she became the fearless and devastatingly glamorous beauty icon we know still today.   She embodied something new. She imposed a new model.

In a world consumed by cosmetic surgery, Sophia Loren reminds us of how striking a naturally unconventional look can be.

“NOTHING MAKES A WOMAN MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE BELIEF THAT SHE IS BEAUTIFUL”

MARTINA
