Street art is a form of art displayed in public places, on buildings or on publicly viewed surfaces. It was born as a form of vandalism with graffiti, it has evolved and changed and now street artists use street art to convey political massages, to draw attention on a particular aspect of society or just to show their talent. Street art allows artists to reach everyone.

THE 7 ENGINEERING WONDERS OF THE MODERN WORLD

 

You surely have already heard about the seven wonders of the world, but have you ever heard about the seven engineering wonders of the world? In fact, nowadays it isn’t enough to say seven wonders of the world because there are several types of “seven wonders of the world”: there are ancient wonders, natural wonders and engineering wonders.

 

In this article I would like to focus on the seven engineering wonders of the world, but first here are  the ancient ones, as categorized by Philo of Byzantium in 250 B.C.:  the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Colossus of Rhode, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Statue of Zeus, the Temple of Artemis, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The only ancient wonder still standing is the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Hi everybody,  what’s up? I think that autumn and winter are perfect seasons to watch tv series, because days are becoming shorter and colder. Especially in this period,  staying at home is very important to stop the Covid19 epidemy.  When we mention tv series it is impossible not to think of Netflix, so in this article I’m going to talk about 5 of my favourite Netflix series.

A GIANT ICEBERG OF ANTARTICA

A giant iceberg, with an area equivalent to Liguria (a region in Italy), is poised to break off from the Antartica shelf.

A thread of just 20km of ice is now preventing the 5,000 sq km mass from floating away, following the sudden expansion last month of a rift that has been steadily growing for more than a decade.

The iceberg, which is positioned on the most northern major ice shelf in Antarctica, known as Larsen C, is predicted to be one of the largest 10 break-offs ever recorded.

SUPER ... MOON !!!

A SUPERMOON is a coincidence of a full moon with closest approach the moon makes to the earth on its elliptical orbit resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from earth.                                       

“Supermoon” isn’t actually an astronomic word but it makes the phenomenon visually clearer than thousands of words. When this happens … the moon becomes full at 14:52 but it can be found under the horizon. The moon rises at 17:18, when the sky is still dark.

On 14 November 2016, the supermoon was 356,511 kilometres away from the centre of the earth. The next supermoon will be on 25 November 2034.

WHEN THE EARTH QUAKES …

… we are terribly scared, of course. It often happens, unfortunately, where we live, that is, in the centre of Italy. But what is an earthquake?

An earthquake is the percepitible shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes can be quite violent, they can throw people to the ground and destroy entire cities.

There have been several strong earthquakes in the last years in Italy. On April 6 2009, a magnitude 6.3 eartquake shook L’Aquila  killing more than 300 people and injuring 1,500 others. It damaged many buildings and landmarks, such as the medieval church in the picture (left). It hasn’t been completely rebuilt yet.
