ANDREA: REGRET IN GEORGE GRAY

This epitaph by Edgar Lee Masters wants to underline the irremediable despair of those who didn’t have the courage to face life in order to fully live it. The poem is written in free verse , without any rhyme nor structures of stanzas.

READING THE NEWSPAPERS

Teenagers usually don’t like reading the newspaper - or reading in general -  but if you want to enrich your vocabulary reading is very useful. We tried this activity in pairs during one of our recent lessons: our teacher brought real English newspapers and we leafed through the pages in search of interesting news or curiosities. Our task was writing down a summary of the article giving the reasons why we had chosen it . It was quite useful and here are the results of our work in pairs.

DREAMING OF FREEDOM

Freedom is a condition in which people have the opportunity to speak, act and pursue happiness without unnecessary external restrictions. Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of creativity and original thought, increased productivity, and an overall high quality of life.

Freedom must be redefined and defended anew by each generation.

History champions the stories of great people who have changed the world by advocating and fighting for human and civil rights.

A TIMELESS FAIRY TALE: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, FROM THE CARTOON TO THE MOVIE

Disney always bewitches us with its fantastic stories, proposing its great classics again in live action! Beauty and the Beast is a fairy tale that everyone has watched at least once, this is the strongest point of the movie: we all may turn back in time, when we spend time seeing these wonderful stories.

Tonight is the night! The best actors and actresses in the world wear glamour clothes, they parade on the red carpet and they live an unforgettable night. This year the Oscars’ night is on 26 th February in the Dolby Theatre of Los Angeles. The presenter of the evening will be Jimmy Kimmel, on his first show at the Oscars.

THREE PERFECT MOVIES FOR INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

Today is the International Remembrance Day and we want to do our part and contribute a post regarding the Holocaust.

We live in a society that need to remember and not to forget the past,  what has been must not  happen anymore. We must learn from the past and make the horrible stories we know about become lessons we truly understand. The world is not all pink and flowers, it has never been and it will never be. What is important is our commitment for the right causes, our will to do our part. Things may change thanks to each one of us!

So, as we are cinema staff here on Let’s Blog,  we have chosen a few  movies to remember.

THE WOMEN’S MARCH

The Women's March took place on 21 January in Washington DC., the day after Donald Trump inaugurated his time at the White House as the new US President. A march to protest for their rights, to raise awareness of women's rights and other civil rights that are thought to be under attack by the new president Donald Trump. It was such a huge march that it will be remembered as one of the most significant events in American history.

GOLDEN GLOBES 2017: SOME UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS

Hollywood delivered the first awards of 2017. The Golden Globe Awards were held in Los Angeles on January 8, and from film to television, many have taken the coveted statuettes home. The Golden Globe Awards had one big winner this year: "La La Land." The musical got seven nominations and won in every single category it was nominated in.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

The adventures of Newt Scamander in 1926 New York City Merlin’s beard! Harry Potter’s world has returned with a new saga: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! We have already watched the first movie at the cinema. It was an incredible emotion to live through the magic again! Newt Scamander is the hero of a new era of magic!

GOLDEN GLOBES: NOMINATIONS 2016

The nominations for the 74th Annual Golden Globe  were announced in Los Angeles by Don Cheadle, Laura Dern and Anna Kendrick. The ceremony of delivery will take place on January 8th conducted by Jimmy Fallon.

The musical comedy by Damien Chazelle, "La La Land," has received seven Golden Globe nominations. Three films have received the most important nominations, and they are also the favorites to Oscar nominations: La La Land, Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea. Among the surprises of these nominations Deadpool, with its star Ryan Reynolds, and Lily Collins as the best comedy actress.

HOLLYWOOD & BEYOND: EMMA WATSON

Born in 1990,  Emma Watson reached world fame thanks to the Harry Potter saga, playing the character of Hermione Granger, from 2001 to 2011. She also starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Noah, Colonia. 

She is also a green fashion designer and has created an ecological collection of only of organic fiber clothing.

In July of 2014 Emma Watson was appointed Goodwill Ambassador, ambassador of good will from the section of the United Nations that deals with gender equality in the world. Emma Watson has also become one of the faces of the “He For She” UN campaign, to break down the gender differences and violence against women. In September of 2014 she spoke at the United Nations headquarters in New York to launch this campaign.

10 THINGS WE LOVED IN ... ME BEFORE YOU

Have you already watched “Me Before You” at cinema?  We have seen it and loved it!

It’s Louisa Clark’s story. She needs a new job and she goes to work for Will Traynor. He has become tetraplegic after a road accident.

It isn’t the classic romantic story with a “happy ending” and this makes it much more interesting. It isn’t only a romantic movie but it’s also a movie that entices you to love life and its value. You can find  this feature in the main character,  Louisa who, with Will’s help, starts finding out the beauty of life. Will is constantly encouraging Lou to try new activities and push the boundaries of her experiences.
