GEORGE GRAY - CATCH THE WIND OF DESTINY WHEREVER THEY DRIVE THE BOAT

Here are Andrea's and Sofia's reflections of Edgar Lee Masters' poem, George Gray

ANDREA: REGRET IN GEORGE GRAY

This epitaph by Edgar Lee Masters wants to underline the irremediable despair of those who didn’t have the courage to face life in order to fully live it. The poem is written in free verse , without any rhyme nor structures of stanzas.

READING THE NEWSPAPERS

Teenagers usually don’t like reading the newspaper - or reading in general -  but if you want to enrich your vocabulary reading is very useful. We tried this activity in pairs during one of our recent lessons: our teacher brought real English newspapers and we leafed through the pages in search of interesting news or curiosities. Our task was writing down a summary of the article giving the reasons why we had chosen it . It was quite useful and here are the results of our work in pairs.

PREMIERE SKILLS ENGLISH

Hi friends!

Today I would like to share with all of you my enthusiasm for the extraordinary discovery that I made some days ago. No, I didn’t find a new gold mine, unfortunately… but, if culture matters,   - why not? – I’ve found something even better.

CLAUDIO RANIERI AND HIS BREAK WITH LEICESTER

Football fans and footballers, what do you think about Leicester Club’s decision to sack Claudio Ranieri? In my opinion Leicester Club has been truly unfair  dismissing him,  despite the team’s performances and   results in Premier League. Mr Ranieri  is a wonderful,  excellent coach! In my opinion he is one of the best coaches in the world but, unfortunately,  though he is being great, he can’t be … divine. Any coach can make mistakes and can have a bad  season but that doesn’t mean you can simply dismiss him and forget everything he did till that moment.

ALEX ZANARDI, THE UNBEATABLE

“I feel my life is a never-ending privilege.”

Today, dear friends, my post is about a man who is stuff of legend. His name is Alex and his surname is Zanardi. Alex was a good F1 driver and he loved his hobby and job. Alex Zanardi was born in Bologna in a loving family soon marked by tragedy: his sister Cristina, who was a promising swimmer,  died in  a car crash in 1979.

THE STORY OF A CHAMPION: LIONEL MESSI

Hi friends! Today I am going to tell you the story of a real phenomenon: Lionel Messi! In my opinion Messi is the strongest footballer in the world and he is even stronger than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel  Messi was born on 24 June 1987 in Rosario (Santa Fe’), the third of four children of Jorge Messi, a steel factory manager, and his wife Celia Cuccittini, who worked in a magnet manufacturing workshop. He grows up in a tight-knit, football-loving family.

WATERPOLO: A SPORT & A HOBBY

Hello friends! Today I want to write about a sport which is also my main hobby. Its name is WATERPOLO. In my opinion, Waterpolo is a fantastic sport, based on swimming, shooting and jumping out of water. In my team there are very talented mates that could even become professional waterpolo players. Probably next year I will play for S.S. Lazio Waterpolo and I hope I’ll become an even stronger goalkeeper. They play in the National Junior League. In this league the teams are much stronger and full of  promising champions.

ALESSANDRO NESTA, “THE WALL”

Hello friends! Today I am going to write about one of the strongest defenders in the history of football. His name is Alessandro Nesta and his nickname is “The wall” because he was so strong that nobody was able to uncheck him.

GIGIO THE YOUNG

Hi friends! I'm a great football fan, so today let me celebrate on our blog one of the myths of  the new generations. His name is Gianluigi, but if you believe that you have already understood, unfortunately you’re wrong! :-) In fact, I’m not referring to the current number one of our national soccer team, Gianluigi Buffon, but to Gianluigi Donnarumma, who not only shares his nickname “Gigi” or “Gigio” with his older colleague, but also seems to repeat his fantastic career on the soccer field.

“Gigio the Young” was born in 1999 at Castellammare di Stabia, near Naples, where he grew up.  So he is only 17! He plays as a goalkeeper  like his brother Antonio: maybe there could be a matter of DNA behind this family tradition!
He’s still a teenager, but he has already shown himself as a leader and  is considered one of the most extraordinary talents in the world of soccer.
It’s not by chance that some time ago he broke several records. For example becoming the youngest goalkeeper ever to debut in Serie A or to play for the national team of Italy. That’s the reason why all the experts think that very soon he will be the successor of  “Gigio” Buffon, who also is sure that “Gigio the Young” will achieve a fantastic career in his future and an extraordinary success. Just one defect: he currently plays for Milan (and I am a supporter of a different team) … what a pity!
