Hi everybody, what’s up? I think that autumn and winter are perfect seasons to watch tv series, because days are becoming shorter and colder. Especially in this period, staying at home is very important to stop the Covid19 epidemy. When we mention tv series it is impossible not to think of Netflix, so in this article I’m going to talk about 5 of my favourite Netflix series.
1.The Crown
If you like
gossiping about the royal family as I do, this is the perfect series for you. It
is a historical drama series about the life of Elisabeth II and the royal
family. Even if the Queen has never been the centre of a scandal, her family has often been rumoured about
during the years and she has always tried to save their reputation. It is also
perfect if you’re studying English contemporary history because it gives you
knowledge of all the British Prime Ministers and of important events in Britain’s
recent history.
At the
moment there are only three seasons but there will be three more. The fourth
season is coming soon, on the 15th of
November, I’m looking forward it!
The series
at the moment has gained several awards such as three Golden Globes and eight
Emmys.
2. Skam Italia
The
original Skam was a Norwegian web series about teenage life which dealt with
different problems and situation typical of adolescence. This series became so
famous that inspired a franchising, now a lot of European countries have their
own Skam. In each Skam series the characters are the same and also the problems
faced are the same but they are set in different countries which changes the
cultural perspective.
Skam Italia
has 4 seasons, in each season there is a different protagonist from the same
group of friends. These guys are all from Rome and they attend high school. In
the first season the Protagonist is Eva and her complicated relationship with
Giovanni. In the second season the protagonist is Martino and his discovery of
being gay. In the third season we have another difficult relationship, and in
the last season the protagonist is Sana an Italian Muslim girl who tries to
have a normal teenage life but respecting the requirements of her strict religion.
I loved
this series because it’s very easy to relate with the protagonists.
3. Stranger Things
This is a
must. Stranger Thing is one of the most watched series on Netflix it has just
41 nominations to Emmy Awards. The first season was released in 2016 and
finally next year the fifth and last season will be released. It is so famous
that it brought the 80s vintage style
back into fashion.
It is a
sci-fi and horror series set in Hawkins in the 1980s. Everything starts with
the disappearance of a child and with the appearance of a strange girl with
psychic powers who has just escaped from a secret laboratory. Then there is the
appearance of a lot of monsters coming from a parallel dimension the Upside
Down and a group of children who saves the world. It is perfect if you like
monsters and scare jumps.
This is a
new miniseries that has just been released on Netflix and I watched it in just
three days.
This series
tells the sad story of Beth Harmon, whose mother suffers from mental illness
and kills herself in a car accident while her daughter is in the car with her.
Beth survives and is sent to an orphanage where she learns how the play of
chess and she reveals herself as an immediate prodigy. But Beth also develops
an addiction to a drug that was given to her to calm her. Growing up she will
be adopted but her life won’t get better until she starts to participates in
chess competitions. During her life, she
will experience difficult situations, she will also develop an alcohol addiction,
until playing chess will save her life.
5. Spinning
out
This series
isn’t very famous and it was cancelled after just one season, probably I’m the
only person in the world who enjoyed it, but I want to suggest it to you
because I think it is very beautiful.
The series protagonist,
Kat, is a high-level skater who after a
disastrous fall sees her Olympic dream vanish, she has lost all her hopes when
she sees the possibility to continue her career as a pair skater with a
talented bad-boy partner. On and off the ice, Kat and her new partner will face
daunting odds, injuries in their bodies and souls, financial sacrifices, and
even potential mental breakdown on their way to their Olympic dream. But there is one more
problem, she has a secret, she suffers from a mental illness which makes
everything more difficult.
I loved it
because it teaches you never to surrender
in front of difficulties but to continue fighting for your dreams.
What about
you? What are your favourite tv series? Have you seen any of these series? If
you have, what’s your favourite one? Let
me know and … till next time!
