REMOTE LEARNING VS IN PERSON

We made a survey among our staff on remote lessons and in-person lessons. Learning remotely places a pressure and responsibility on students to suddenly have much more self-control. Additionally, the environments of distance versus in-person learning are very different and this factor holds distance learning back from being an adequate substitute for in-person learning. But the emergency of a dangerous pandemic have made remote learning necessary. What do our staff think about it?

In my four (very long) years of high school activity, I've learnt how important school is. School for me has been crucial, both for all the knowledge I've gained and for the social interactions I've had. Since remote classes reduce the second ones and make them virtual,  I prefer in-person classes.  I'm convinced the interaction between students and teachers is very important and affects the process of teaching and learning.

Remote lessons offer less chances of participation than in person, but at the moment they are  the best solution. Even though the remote lessons may slow down the learning /teaching process, it does not mean they are useless.  Now they are the best choice, because it means the school system is near us  and it does not leave us alone. It allows us keep studying  responsibly, avoiding the risks and serious consequences of the inevitable huge gatherings and reducing the cost of the masks for millions of students.

Personally I think that a lesson in-person is always better than remote learning, because it is more school (with all its pros and cons of course) than virtual learning. The only one pro of remote learning is that you have a lot of time to organize your activities, far more than ordinary school day. But hopefully, we’ll get through this pandemic also thanks to our sacrifices.

Both types of lessons have pros and cons. Talking about the remote lessons, a pro is that there aren’t the dead times of transports, you can get up later and you are already at home when you finish the lessons. If the lessons are recorded you can decide to listen them whenever you want and you are freer to organize your time. On the other hand, you spend a lot of hours in front of a screen and that isn’t good for your health. The best aspect of in-person classes is the human contact between students and teachers, when you are at school you can talk and discuss with you classmates, creating beautiful friendships, the lessons become funnier, more enjoyable and more productive, for both the students and the teachers. For all this reasons I think that in-person classes are the best.

Personally I think both remote learning and in-person lessons are good ways to learn. Physically attending school allows you to socialize more easily. You are also generally more focused during in-person lessons. On the other hand,  remote lessons allow both teacher and students to be more comfortable and relaxed, since they don’t have to leave their homes. With remote learning you have a much greater flexibility. In the end,  I think it’s just a matter of means. It depends on what means you have access to.

I think that in-person classes are better than remote classes because, in spite of technology being an efficient alternative, when we are behind the screen there is not great interaction between teacher and student. The problem of remote classes is sometimes, when you are doing online lesson, you can have Internet problem. However, one pro of remote classes is that you can do lesson everywhere.

Personally I prefer in-person classes. They’re better because difficult subjects such as Maths or Physics need to be learnt in person so as to understand complex concepts. It’s easier to ask for clarifications in person rather than through smart devices. Smart devices makes communicating harder and can cause difficulities in understanding.

From March to June I experienced remote learning, it was a weird experience but, at first,  it was very difficult to organize the work and arrange all  the right stuff for video lessons. Unfortunately,  that time has come again, but we mustn't give up!
