HELLSING

Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog! We are in the spooky month so I’m going to tell you about something very pertinent.

I think everyone knows who Dracula is: the first vampire in the history, a  really pitiless being, to the point that they say he impaled his enemies and put they in front of his castle to keep everybody at a distance.

They say there is a real character behind this story, I’m talking of Vlad Dracula Tepes III of Walachia. I won’t linger to tell you Vlas III’s story because you can find it here on our blog (CLICK HERE). Instead,  I’d like to talk about the most important and famous anime about Dracula created by Kota Hirano.

I’m talking about “Hellsing Ultimate”. Hellsing started on 30th September 1998 in the form of a manga, until after 8 years  his anime faithful adaptation came out.

The story is set in 20th century London. The Royal Knights of Protestant Order are a noble stoke known as “Hellsing”. They have been fighting  vampires and ghouls from generations. The Hellsing works secretly in the service of the Queen of England. Leading the organization is Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, a young woman with a strong personality that  Alucard recognizes as his master.

An amazing, engaging, jaw-dropping battle against the Nazis ensues!  The Nazis have unleashed some scenerios and situations which jeopardize the whole of Great Britain and the Queen’s life!

It isn’t a light anime both for its  themes and for its splatter scenes; there are psychological, historical and religious topics. There is a clash between the Catholic and the Protestant church. There is mutual hatred between them.

A first version of this anime, created in 2001,  doesn’t faithfully follow the story in the manga. At that time the animation industry used to change the original story with another that often has nothing to do with it. We can call it “stylistic choices” but often they spoil the plot and,  as a consequence, the anime itself.

Anyway, I hope I succeeded in getting you interested. I think that it's worth to watch it. If you do, or have already done it, please, share your musings in the comments.
