Hi guys,
Camilla and Francesca here! We would like to post about the breaking news of
the day, that is NASA discovery.
NASA has
announced that life may have evolved on at least three planets in a newly
discovered solar system just 39 light years from Earth. Astronomers have detected
no less than seven Earth-sized worlds orbiting a cool dwarf star know as Trappist-1.
It is an ultracool
dwarf star that is approximately eight per cent the mass of and eleven per cent
the radius of our Sun. It has a temperature of 2550K and is at least 500
millions years old.
In
comparison the Sun is about 4,6 billion years old and has a temperature 5778K.
These
planets orbit at the right distance to possibly have liquid water somewhere on
their surfaces and the temperature range from zero to 100C.
No other
star system known contains such a large number of Earth-sized and probably rocky
planets.
Isn’t
that truly fascinating news? Life in a
different solar system means we may not be alone in the universe! Super
exciting!
