We know that the BIG WORLD OF BOOKS has a fundamental
place in the history of humanity.
We mean, books are the key to the mind and the
soul of our humanity and to men who have lived in our world since ancient
times.
They tell us the world has changed and the world will change again, but, fundamentally, human beings have always been the same. We are sure we need books. We are sure
we love books and we learn much from them.
So we have decided to propose our library of
quotes, the ones we especially love from books we like. Quotes are wisdom in
pills and we really like to collect them. What about you?
Here are some of our favourite quotes:
“Art enables us to
find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”
Here Thomas Merton provides further
meditations on the spiritual life in sixteen thoughtful essays. This sequel to
Seeds of Contemplation provides fresh insight into Merton's favorite topics of
silence and solitude, while also underscoring the importance of community and
the deep connectedness to others that is the inevitable basis of the spiritual
life, whether one lives in solitude or in the midst of a crowd.
“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the
look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the
middle before I knew that I had begun.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
In this classic romance, young Elizabeth
Bennet strives for love, independence and honesty in the vapid high society of
19th century England.
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us.
What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5)
In this
book Harry Potter attends his fifth year at Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry. His best friends Ron and Hermione have been very
secretive all summer and he is desperate to get back to school and find out
what has been going on. However, what Harry discovers is far more devastating
than he could ever have expected.
"There's only one rule you need to
remember: laugh at everything and forget everybody else! It sound egotistical,
but it's actually the only cure for those suffering from self-pity"
The Diary of a Young Girl
Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life,
Anne Frank's remarkable diary has since become a world classic a powerful reminder
of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.
"It is only with the
heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is
invisible to the eye.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry The Little Prince
It
tells the story of a little boy who leaves the safety of his own tiny planet to
travel the universe, learning the vagaries of adult behaviour through a series
of extraordinary encounters. His personal odyssey culminates in a voyage to
Earth and further adventures.
Do you you agree with us? Do you like reading? Why
do you read?
And even if you are not a fond reader, we are
sure you must know at least part of these quotes!
