HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN TRAVOLTA!

John Joseph Travolta was born in Englewood, New Jersey, on the 18th of February 1954. So he turns 63 years old today: Happy birthday! He was really successful as an actor in the 90s. Let's discover more about him.

His father was of Italian descent and his mother was of Irish ancestry. Travolta started studying in a drama school in New York, where he studied voice, dancing and acting. He decided to combine all these three arts and become a musical comedy performer.
At first he worked in NY, then he went to Hollywood and appeared in minor roles in several series.
Then he starred in lots of monumental films, earning his first Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his role in Saturday Night Fever (1977), which launched the disco phenomenon in the 1970s. He went on to star in the big-screen version of the musical Grease (1978) and the successful Urban Cowboy (1980).

He received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for his roles and was named Best Actor by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, among other distinguished awards.
Travolta provided the voice of the lead character in Walt Disney Pictures' animated hit “Bolt”, which was nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and a Golden Globe for Best Animated Film.

Travolta also starred in Walt Disney Pictures' "Daddy Sitter" (2009) with Robin Williams.

John and his wife, actress Kelly Preston are  involved in charity with  The Jett Travolta Foundation, which raises money for children with educational needs.

As I said before, John acted in a lot of successful films, but the most famous are absolutely “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever”.

These two films had an important role in fashion and music in the 1970s. They created a trend. Teenagers loved the actors' style, but especially people loved (and still love) the songs. In my opinion all the songs in these musicals are very beautiful and they are evergreen hits.
Even if times and music trends have changend and will change, these songs will always be the icons of the 70s.  And now...  Let's start with...

Grease (1978)
Sandy Olsen is a nice girl and Danny Zuko is the head T-Bird from Rydell High School. When the two meet up during the summer, they fall in love. But when the summer ends, the two think they'll never see each other again. However,  they're both wrong. When the two discover that they attend the same school, they cannot be together since it's uncool for Danny to be in love with a goody like Sandy. In the meantime Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo. In the end Sandy and Danny manage to stay together against all odds.

Best songs

"You better shape up,
'Cause you need a man
And my heart is set on you.
You better shape up,
You better understand
To my heart I must be true."

"Summer loving had me a blast
Summer loving happened so fast
I met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
Summer days drifting away to oh oh the summer nights."

(my favourite. This song is so cool!! And the cast is fantastic!)

Saturday night fever (1977)
A Brooklyn teenager feels his only chance to succeed is as the king of the disco floor. His carefree youth and weekend dancing help him to forget the reality of his bleak life. (from IMDb)
