BASKETBALL
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, also known by his initials, MJ, is a
former American basketball player, as well as the main shareholder and
president of the Charlotte Hornets basketball team.
In 1982, Jordan joined the NBA with the Chicago Bulls in 1984, quickly becoming
one of the league's stars and helping to spread the NBA worldwide in the 1980s
and 1990s.
Jordan was a six-time NBA Basketball champion, making the
Chicago Bulls 2 Three-peat, a term that indicates the victory of the NBA Finals
for 3 annual editions in a row (91-92-93 and 96-97-98).
After winning the third title, he temporarily abandoned
basketball. He returned to the Bulls during the 1994-1995 season and retired a
second time after winning his sixth title in 1998. In 2001 he resumed his
competitive activity, this time in the Washington Wizards, postponing it for
two seasons before his final retirement.
FOOTBALL
Pelé, pseudonym with which Edson Arantes do Nascimento is
universally known, is a sports manager and former Brazilian footballer, of
attacking role, considered by the major international official sports
organizations as well as by many experts and enthusiasts the best player of all
time.
He is the only footballer in the world to have won three
editions of the world soccer championship (1958, 1962 and 1970).
In official matches he scored 761 goals in 825 matches. It
is part of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and was inserted by the American weekly
TIME in the "TIME 100 Heroes & Icons" of the twentieth century.
It has been declared a "national treasure" and
"historical-sports heritage of humanity".
FORMULA 1
Michael Schumacher is a former German Formula One racing
driver, among all drivers the most successful Formula 1 champion and one of the
greatest sports drivers of all time. He has conquered 7 world titles: the first
two with Benetton (1994 and 1995) and subsequently five in a row with Ferrari
(2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004).
Schumacher holds most of the Formula One records, having
also achieved the highest number of Grand Prix wins, Fast Laps in the race, hat
trick (pole position, victory and fastest lap in the same race). In October
2003 he became the most titled Formula 1 driver, breaking Juan Manuel Fangio's
record.
On 29 December 2013 he was seriously injured in a ski
accident, following which he remained in a pharmacological coma for some time.
There is still no news of Schumacher today.
TENNIS
Roger Federer has conquered 14 Grand Slam titles: 9 Roland
Garros (absolute record), 2 Wimbledon, 2 US Open and an Australian Open. His
numerous victories on clay (record of 49 titles on an equal footing with
Guillermo Vilas), among which the nine titles at Roland Garros stand out
(absolute record), earned him the nickname of King of Clay, and led to
recognize him as the best player ever on this surface.
Furthermore, on the occasion of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro
Olympics, the Majorcan tennis player, winning the gold medal in the men's
doubles teamed with Marc Lopez, became the first tennis player in history to
win all four Slam tournaments, the Davis cup and the Olympic gold medal both in
singles and men's doubles.
BOXING
Muhammad Ali, Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., was an American
boxer, one of the greatest and most appreciated sportsmen in history.
He began training at the age of 11. He won Olympic gold at the Rome Games in
1960 and 1964, at the age of 22.
He is the only heavyweight to have been linear champion for three occasions: in
1964, 1974 and finally in 1978. Between 25 February and 19 September 1964 he
was also the undisputed champion of the division.
He holds the highest number of "boxer of the year" awards, awarded by
The Ring, having won this award in 1963, 1966, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1978.
