The Greatest Love of All is a song by Whitney Houston dating back to 1986. This song was actually written in 1977 by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. Linda Creed wrote this tune while she was fighting against breast cancer.
"Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me"
Creed wants to invite us to depend just on ourselves. In fact, sometimes we look up to someone as an a role model and we try to emulate them. We do this because we wish that person may accept us. But, doing that, we forget to live our own life. And Creed wants to tell us just this: we shouldn’t waste our lives. It doesn't matter if we fail, because the most important thing is that we live as we believe we should.
So, this song urges us to be ourselves.
"I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity"
"Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all"
Time to listen to this beautiful song!
