POSE: ART AS ACTIVISM

Hi guys I’m back! Today I wanna talk to you about my top 3 characters from my favorite tv series! Its title is “Pose”

Have you ever heard about it?

Pose is an American drama tv-series about New York City's African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture scene in the 1980s and, in the second season, early 1990s.

Ballrooms are place where lgbtq people go to partecipate in the runway with different categories like voguing.

It’s  a very interesting tv-series because it lets you know about many things like “the ball culture”or the situation of trans people in that period or how the HIV issue spread and it was  a real killer.

Ballrooms are places where lgbtq people go to partecipate in the runway with different categories (like voguing) to win trophies. Ballrooms are not just a place to show yourself, to perform and to win trophies but they are places where you are free to be yourself.

5 ) Blanca Evangelista

She is a trans woman with HIV/AIDS. She is the founder and mother of the House of Evangelista. The “house” is a place founded by a member of lgbtq comunity who decides to “adopt” and to save from the streets young guys who were ousted from home for being gay or trans. She is a very patient and kind woman who tries to make everyone happy. The role of Blanca Evangelista is interpreted by MJ Rodriguez,  a 21 –year- old trans woman.

4) Demon Evangelista

Damon Evangelista, a homeless, talented dancer who becomes the first member of the House of Evangelista. He was homeless because his father ousted him for being gay. He is a very good vogue dancer. His role is interpreted by Ryan Jamaal Swain an American actor and dancer.

3) Pray Tell

He is the announcer of the ballroom shows and he is the best friend of Blanca Evangelista. He is a gay man with HIV and his boyfriend died from the disease.

He is very good at sewing clothes. The role of Pray Tell is interpreted by Billy Porter an American Broadway theater performer, singer, and actor.

 2) Ricky Wintour

He is Damon's boyfriend and a former member of the House of Evangelista,  but when he breaks up with Demon he joins the House of Wintour.

He is a very beautiful and talented guy who loves dancing interpreted by Dyllón Burnside,  an American actor and singer.

1) Angel Evangelista

She is a trans woman,  sex worker and,  after being  a model for “Ford Models” in the second season , she joins the House of Evangelista after leaving the House of Abundance.

She is a very, very, very beautiful woman who can’t reveal to the world that she is a biological male. The role of Angel is interpreted by Indya Moore, a transwoman who started working as a female model, just like her character in the series.
