WHAT TYPE ARE YOU?

Hi, everyone! Have you ever heard about tests of the personality types? It is an interesting kind of tests which shows what your personality type is. I did one and, after seeing the results, I was surprised and I found a lot of the behaviours described in the outcome, which is associated with the personality and relative percentages. So, today, I want to share with you all about this kind f test to understand how it works, before you try it. If you feel like doing it, of course!

WHAT IS THE MBTI?

The MBTI, or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, owes its name to the two scientists Isabel Briggs-Myers and her daughter, Katharine Cook Briggs, who created it. It was invented to help women during the Second World War understand what job could be more suitable for them, because in that period of time men fought in the war and women had to take on their men's  jobs. The first test was completed and published in 1962.

The MBTI is an instrument used to determine the personality type, to show the leading function of an individual and to understand  yourself and your relationships better. In 40 years the two scientists elaborated the MBTI, which is based on the article published in 1921 by Carl Gustav Jung. In this article he talked about the existence of psychological types. After it had been published, a lot of researchers wanted to understand  this theory better and the MBTI triumphed on other models.

RELATIONSHIP  BETWEEN THE MBTI AND THE THEORY OF CARL GUSTAV JUNG

The MBTI classifies the psychological differences into 4 pairs of opposites, called dichotomies,  this way we have 16 different personality types. The 4 pairs are: extraversion (E) / introversion (I); sensitivity (S) /intuition (N), which could be directed toward the others or the inner world; thinking (T) /feeling (F), which could be directed toward the others or the inner world; judgment (J) /perception (P). At the beginning Carl Gustav Jung introduced only 2 groups of functions over the dichotomy, extraversion and introversion: the judgement or rational pair, which is composed by thinking and feeling and  the perception or irrational pair, which is composed by sensitivity and intuition. So there were only eight personality types in his scheme.

But Myers and Briggs integrated the dichotomy judgment-perception, which describes  what of the two functions the person uses to compare with the external world. Each person uses more only one of this four functions (S, N, T, F). Each person uses all of them, but some of these are used more easily and consciously. Besides the leading functions there are secondary functions, a third function and a forth function, which are used in less aware ways and which are opposite to the leading function.

EXTRAVERSION AND INTROVERSION

An extroverted person is a person open to the outer world, who takes  energy from sociality and action and who spends it for reflection. An introverted person is a person who is focused on the inner world, who takes energy being alone, and who spends this energy for sociality and action. Myers and Briggs understood that all the cognitive functions could be clarified both in the inner world and in the outer world, but everyone has a preference between these two attitudes.

SENSITIVITY AND INTUITION AND THINKING AND FEELING

The functions, which review the collection of information, are sensitivity and intuition. Sensitivity is the way of perception of the world with the 5 senses. Intuition is the opposite; it is the way of perception of the world with precepts and abstract schemes. The functions of judgement, which reviews what way a person takes rational decisions, are thinking and feeling. A person, who is led by the function of thinking, makes decisions based on a system of rules and in a detached way. A person, who led, instead, by the function of feeling, makes decisions based on his/her feelings.

HOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR LEADING FUNCTION?

The result of  the test is composed by four letters, the initials of the four prevailing functions: the first letter, E or I and the fourth letter for the extroverted function, P or J. If the result is ExxP or IxxJ, the leading function is the second letter; if the result is IxxP or ExxJ, the leading function is the third.

16 PERSONALITIES

The MBTI divided people into four groups of temperaments: the analysts, which is associated with the colour purple, the diplomats, with the green, the sentinels, with the blue, and the explorers, with the yellow. If you want to take the test, I suggest you to do it on the website Test della Personalità gratis | 16 Personalities

You’ll answer a lot of questions without being influenced by other people. You could choose to answer between seven dots: 3 for agree, one in the middle to not answer and 3 for disagree. The language of the test is in Italian or in English and you must use less the dot in the middle, because it could change the result of the test. In the page of your result you’ll find the comment, which underline the most important sides of your personality, and famous people or characters of TV-series that have your personality type.

I hope you’ll try this test, you’ll find out your personality type and will be helped reflect about yourself and your personality. Enjoy your test!
