ANIME VS MANGA

Hi guys! Today I'd like to share with you my latest passion: ANIME AND MANGA!

Manga is the name given to Japanese comics while  Anime is the name used to refer to Japanese cartoons.

Among the "Otaku" (noun used to describe Japanese culture's lovers) there's always been a bone of contention: which one's better?

Here are some opinions about both so as to let you understand better and make up your own opinion.

MANGA

      1) “Manga is the original work! Anime are only bad imitations”
2)    “Anime are based on manga!”
3)    “in  manga there aren't fillers! (a filler is an episode of anime that tells a story which isn't in the “original work”)”
4)    “if anime aren't based on manga, they are inspired by a video game, a film... Anyway, Anime is never original.”

ANIME

      1) “Anime are full of action. Instead, manga are static drawings”.
2)  ”Anime have soundtracks, and the arey more gripping than Manga”
3)  ”Fillers are important even if they aren't in the original story because they help you understand  the plot better”
4) “Some kinds of anime, like shonen (anime or manga based on fights), are more interesting when they're animated”

What you've just read are only some of the countless motivations I found on the Internet.

But I also did a survey among LET'S BLOG! staff in which I asked for their opinions:

1) Cristiano (3sc): I'd say Anime,  because the osts (typical soundtrack in Anime) make you more involved in the story, you really sympathize with the characters and what they're doing. For example, the Ost is essential during the 3rd Hokage funeral in Naruto. Bleach FOREVER!

I think that if the mangaka (the person whose job is drawing manga) draws well, you can see all the expressions too, even better than in anime. Anyway, I totally agree with Cristiano when he says that manga have no osts and his example is great.
And your favourite anime is Bleach, Cristiano! I read the manga and it's a great work!

2) Simone C. (5sc): I generally prefer manga for the art style, which is hard if not impossible to reproduce in animation. Though not all animation studios are alike, some anime are better than others,  especially in the way they convey action scenes and high speed movements, also the voice acting and music can help to create more exciting scenes, plus some good use of colour which doesn’t appear in manga pages. There are definitely some anime that are better than their manga counterpart, that’s all I’m saying.

Simone argued for both so ... what can I reply?

3) Yuri   (2sc.): In my opinion, manga are better than anime. That's because I find feeling the paper under my fingers far more beautiful than looking at the screen. Then the characters are usually better introduced than in anime due to the short duration of the episodes. Furthermore, sometimes anime show only a little part of the story that is in a manga.

I thank Cristiano, Simone and Yuri for their collaboration and for sharing their opinions with us.

Now it's my turn: I think that both have a lot of points in their favour so there's definitely no winner.

However, I prefer manga even though I watch anime most. I know it might seem contradictory but when I start reading a book I want to finish it fastly and since anime  are shorter than manga I use to watch a lot of them. Anyway, if anime have lots of episodes, I prefer reading manga.

So I can say I prefer the shortest  XD.

Now I'll leave you with a question:

Which one's better in your opinion? Anime or manga?

  1. Hi Jaco,
The otaku is a Japanese term (as you said) but that indicates a Japanese subculture of obsessive fans of manga, anime and other products related to them.
