SANREMO, ITALIAN MUSIC SHOWCASED IN EUROVISION

Do you like Italian music? Have you ever heard of Sanremo? If you have never seen it, you’ve missed the chance to see the most important Italian song contest,  which is also very popular all around the world. Sanremo takes place in the beautiful town of the same name situated in the north of Italy,  in Liguria.  Every year I can’t  wait for it to start,   because I’m a great fan and I’m always very excited to listen to new songs.

How it works

There aren’t permanent rules because they are decided by an artistic director who is chosen by the Rai, the Italian State Broadcasting Company. The only sure thing is that it lasts five days.
This year the artistic director was Claudio Baglioni who is a famous Italian song-writer and singer. There were twenty-four singers in competition. On the first night all the artists sang, on the second one only half of them   and on the third night the other half performed. On the fourth night the singers performed their songs in duets with other famous artists and, finally,  on the last night   the winner was proclaimed summing up the audience’s votes with the votes of a  jury of experts.
The Festival is always held in February and its winner represents Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest.

And the winner is…

This year the winner was Mahmood, Alessandro Mahmood, who had already won Sanremo Giovani , with Gioventù Bruciata. If you want to know more about him click HERE.

Alessandro was born in Milan and was brought up by his mother after his father left them both when he was still a child. His personal story is in the lyrics of his song, Soldi.  Apparently his father only came back to ask for money, that is to say soldi in Italian.

My Top Three

My favourite Sanremo song this year is, in fact,  the winning song,  “Soldi” by Mahmood.

My second favourite  is “Rose Viola” by Ghemon

Then I have a third favourite,  which is “La ragazza con il cuore di latta” by Irama. It has beautiful melody and a very touching story, that of a girl abused by her own father.

Now I’m looking forward to  supporting Mahmood in the Eurovision Song Contest where he will represent Italy.  So far there have been many positive reactions to his being the representative for Italy. Have a look at these videos HERE, HERE and HERE.  These Eurovision fans seem honestly enthusiastic!
