LEICESTER DREAMED BIG!

Hi everyone! This is James.  Welcome back to our blog! How are you? I'm fine, I expected this return to school to be more difficult, but luckily everything is fine, I'm ready for the “second half" of the school year! Last Saturday I was watching the Premier League match Leicester-Southampton, and the winning-title season by Leicester in 2015/16 came back to my mind, probably the best achievement for the small club in recent years. Let's find out more!

THE CLUB

Leicester City FC is a small club. It is 136 years old and had never won a Premier League title until their magnificent season 2015/16. In 2014/15 they were playing so badly they were nearly relegated from the Premier League. Then, Leicester started winning and becoming a very competitive team. They beat big clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. Then, finally, in May 2016 they won the Premier League title  and obtained the pass for the next season's UEFA Champions League, the highest football competition in Europe.

THE FANS

Of course, for the fans it was a dream. Everybody in Leicester used to wear blue and white, and the club shop sold out of shirts and flags in March! It's unbelievable! Everybody in England supported Leicester during that season, because for once they didn’t have to support the richest clubs with the most expensive players anymore… they returned to dream big!

THE PLAYERS

Leicester’s players were not the most expensive. In fact, the team used to have some of the cheapest players in the league. The team actually costs 505,25 million euros but during the winning-title season the team was worth 63.87 mln €! That’s mad guys! You only have to think that one of Arsenal’s players, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, costs 70€ mln. The players in Leicester were not as famous as other players. For example, eight years ago Jamie Vardy, Leicester’s top scorer, was playing non-league football. Now he's one of England’s most famous players. Football players voted (during that season) Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez as the best player in the League, but two years before he was playing for Le Havre reserves in France…and, nowadays,he is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League!

 THE CITY

The city changed during the last years because of football, in fact it was not very famous before and it didn’t have many visitors. Now everyone is interested in the city, with a lot of television crews from Europe, America, Japan and Australia visiting. Before the Premier League title, this city was famous for the Red Leicester cheese and for the Walker Crisps factory!

So, guys, this was my article about Leicester City and his amazing 2015/16 season. Do you like football? Have you ever seen a Premier League match? How many teams can you name from the English Premier League? I think that it's one of the most entertaining football championships in the world, far funnier than our Italian Serie A, I'm sure about that!  Don’t forget to leave a comment and leave your feedback below! See you in February, bye!
