HOW TO DOWNLOAD RAIPLAY VIDEOS

 Before starting

What do you need?

-        A computer (any OS) with a browser installed (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.)

-        Obviously, an Internet connection (faster is better for download time)

-        A RaiPlay account (optional, see below for more info)

Is this legal?

Yes, but (in Italy) you should not share (neither with friends) or sell your downloaded videos.

You can learn more in this article (it talks about YouTube videos but it’s overlapping).

Let’s begin

Open RaiPlay

Get started by opening RaiPlay on your browser (don’t use any app) and logging into your RaiPlay account: then click on “Accedi” and enter your account information.

This may not be required because here we’re not going to play the video itself but just load the page, anyway, a popup could appear during navigation.

Find your content

You should now look for the content you would like to download. Make sure to load the content page while clicking and not to keep on the same page, or the downloader won’t identify the content you’re looking for.

If clicking on a video the page doesn’t change, you should click the button next to “Riproduci” that says “Vai al titolo” or “Vai alla collezione” (as in our example case below).

Copy your video URL

Now copy the page URL (the address of the video, the link). If you don’t know how to do it, you just need to look above the webpage at a text that contains “raiplay.it”. Click on it, then right-click it and finally click “Copy”.

Warning: if the page you open contains more than one video, you should right-click on the video you want to download and “Copy Link” instead of copying the link of the current page, or the download could not work as expected.

Download the video

Open this website and paste the copied URL in the input box: it could take a while but after that, you’ll see a message saying “Click to continue”.

Click on it and a list of downloadable content will appear: look for the best resolution (probably 1280x720) and right-click on the link, then “Save as…” and choose a name for the file you’re going to download. The download should start soon…

Downloaded!

After downloading, you should now be able to open the file (better checking!!!). If it isn’t so, you could need a video player like VLC to play it.

Conclusion

The method shown uses a website to get the download link of the video: there are other methods, but they’re not so simple to use and tend to require extra steps or some “technical” skills.

Anyway, if the method I showed here failed for you, you may want to try youtube-dl, a program which downloads YouTube videos but also content from other websites, including RaiPlay.

Also, if you liked the downloader I used in this tutorial, you have to know it works also with other websites such as YouTube and Vimeo.
