A SONG FOR NEW YEAR'S DAY

New Year is coming and New Year’s Day one of my favourite holidays! There’s a  perfect song to celebrate it, which I really like, it is Taylor Swift's New Year's Day. Do you know it?

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter. Her songs revolves around her personal life. At age of nine, she became interested in musical theater, then she shifted her focus towards country music. She spent her weekends performing at local festivals and events. In 2006 she wrote her first song "Tim McGraw" which was a great success.

In total she released 9 albums, my best favourite is "Reputation",  which contains the song I’m writing about, "New Year's Day"

 Taylor and Jack

New Year's Day was written and produced by Taylor Swift with Jack Antonoff, who  encouraged her to capture emotions at a particular time, when "you can feel like you can conquer the world, or you can feel like the biggest piece of garbage that ever existed". He said that "New Year's Day" was the fastest song to complete on Reputation, as the two recorded "scratch takes" that do not filter out the clicking sounds.

An Interview

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Antonoff recalled that the recording session was inspired by singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell for capturing emotional honesty: "You don't want to get the perfect tune. You don't want to get the absolute perfect vocal take or the perfect panning or compression...It has nothing to do with genre, or how loud or soft it is. You just want the song to feel like itself.”

Theme of the song

The song brings images of a New Year's party to life and talks about not erasing memories you want to get rid of, because they won’t let you so you should hold on and learn from them and recognize both the good and the bad times. Usually, people like to think that the person you share a New Year's kiss is the most important one, but in this case, the person who stays after the party and helps you clean up is the most important person.

It's time to listen to the song now!
