PEOPLE WHO LEFT US IN 2018

2018 has been saddened by so many losses! People from Cinema, Sport, Television left us in the past twelve months. In this post, I’m going to write about some of them,  whom I consider very important for what they did or what they gave us in their lives.

Davide Astori

On April 4thfootball player Davide Astori died in his hotel bedroom. It was only some hours before the match: Fiorentina Vs Udinese. He was Fiorentina’s captain, playing as a defender. The cause behind his death is a heart disease, but two doctors are still under investigation for his death. At his funeral, there were not only his relatives,  but also lots of fans and VIPs who went there to give their support to the family he left.

Stephen Hawking

Probably one of the most famous and important physicists of all times. Stephen Hawking died on March 14that the age of 76. Famous for his studies on black holes and the origin of the universe, Hawking left Physics a huge contribution.

Fabrizio Frizzi

One of the most popular hosts of Italian Television. On March 26thFabrizio Frizzi passed away after a few months struggle with a stroke. Now (Italian Public Television) RAI’s studio “DEAR” bears his name so it is now called “Fabrizio Frizzi” studio.

Avicii

You cannot say you didn’t know him. At least once you listened to one of his famous songs like “Wake me up”, “Hey Brother” or “Waiting for love”. Avicii’s real name was Tim Bergling and he killed himself on April 20th  . He suffered from depression. Six days after his death, his family released an open letter stating:

"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.
When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be able to be happy and to do what he loved most – music.
He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.
He could now not go on any longer.
He wanted to find peace.
Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.
Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed.
The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.
We love you,
The Tim Bergling Family"

Sergio Marchionne

Sergio Marchionne was the Italian manager who moved to Canada and then came back to his native land to bring the Italian automobile company, FIAT, back up. Thanks to his great management skills and, sometimes, strong decisions now FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) is among the most important car companies in the world. Marchionne died on July 25thafter a fast deadly disease, but his memory is always there when someone talks about FIAT.

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin died on August 16th, and she is still considered the “Queen of Soul”. Anyway, her wonderful voice was not famous only for the songs she sang, but also for her civil rights activism. She used to provide money for civil rights groups and her songs “Respect” and “Natural Woman” became anthems of these movements for social change.
