The Mandela
Effect is a phenomenon in which an extended quantity of people remembers
something of the past that is not true or has never happened.
The term
“Mandela Effect” was coined by Fiona Broome, a paranormal researcher, to
explain the misremembering of Nelson Mandela’s death.
When Nelson
Mandela died in 2013 many people remembered he had already died between the
late 1980s and early 1990s but he was actually freed from prison alive in
1990s.
There are also
clues that Mandela actually died in prison in 1991.
Look for
example at this extract from a book. It clearly says that Nelson Mandela died
on 23rd July 1991.
OTHER
EXAMPLES OF MANDELA EFFECTS
Mirror,
mirror on the wall
Have you
ever seen the scene in Snow White in which the Queen speaks to her mirror? A
lot of people clearly remember the Queen saying “Mirror, mirror on the wall…”
but guess what, she has never said it!
There are
even many song lyrics and movies that quote that line from Snow White but
still, the Queen has never said anything like that.
Watch this
clip from the original Snow White movie.
Mr. Monopoly
Most of us
have played Monopoly at least once in their lives, haven’t we? Ok, now I want
you to picture in your mind the Monopoly guy, that one that is on the box or on
the game, the one with the black hat and the black tuxedo and the monocle on
his eye…well, he has no monocle on his eye! For me that
was kind of mind blowing and for many other people too.
For
example, if you look up in the internet “monopoly guy costumes” more than half
of the results include people dressed up as Mr. Monopoly with a monocle on.
Also, in 1995
movie Ace Ventura: when nature calls, the character played by Jim Carrey refers
to this man who is wearing a tuxedo and a monocle as the “Monopoly guy”.

Lyrics that
do not exist
One of the
most shocking Mandela effects I know is related to the Queen most famous song
called “We are the champions”.
Think about
the very last line of the song. It goes like this “’cause we are the
champions…*inhales enough air to shut so laud so that neighbors pack their
stuff to move to somewhere else*…OF THE WORLD”. Well, the line
“of the world” does not exist in the official version of the song.

THEORIES
BEHIND THE EFFECT
One of the theories
behind the Mandela effect is time travelling.
Our reality
is supposed to be the result of small alterations of the past caused by time
travelers so the past is different from what our memories remember.
Another
theory affirms that the world ended first in 2000 and a second time in 2012 and
the differences in today’s world are caused by the fact that we have
transitioned from a universe to a parallel universe where things are a little
bit distorted or different.
So, what do you think of this weird phenomenon?
Have you ever heard of it? Which Mandela effect shocked you the most?
