IS DONALD TRUMP KEEPING HIS PROMISES?
On November
11th,2016 Lorenzo wrote a very interesting post about the President
of the U.S.A, Donald Trump. It tells about President Trump’s promises during his election campaign.
Today my task is to analyse what Donald Trump has
done since his election. I mean, has he kept his promises?

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING: A SPECIAL NIGHT AT THE THEATRE
“ Sigh no more Ladies, sigh no more, Men were deceivers ever, One foot in Sea, and one on shore, To one thing constant never…”
Dear
readers, we would like to share with you one of our best experiences so far. We went
to the Globe Theatre in Rome to see one
of Shakespeare’s most entertaining comedies: “Much Ado About Nothing”.
It
was a new experience for us because we saw a play in English for the first time!
We know, we were crazy. Shakespeare's English is not for everyone!

THE BLACK CAP
GLOBAL WARMING
In 1896 Svante Arrhenius and Thomas Chamberlin evaluated that human activities would provoke an increase of global average temperature due to the production of high quantity of carbon dioxide. This prediction was ignored until the 1980s when the global annual mean temperature curve started rising steeply. Then, many scientists started pointing at it as the main cause of the global warming.

DREAMING OF FREEDOM
Freedom is a condition in which people have
the opportunity to speak, act and pursue happiness without unnecessary external
restrictions. Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of
creativity and original thought, increased productivity, and an overall high
quality of life.
Freedom must be redefined and defended anew by
each generation.
History champions the stories of great people
who have changed the world by advocating and fighting for human and civil
rights.

A SPECIAL MOVIE ON A SPECIAL DAY - TAKE MY EYES (TE DOY MIS OJOS)
Te doy mis ojos was shot in 2003 in Spain.
The director is Iciar Bolain. The protagonists are Pilar, played by Laia Marull,
and her violent husband, Antonio aka Luis Tosar.
A CRUCIAL ISSUE
Aggressiveness is the main cause of death and
invalidity for women between 15-44. “Take my eyes" is focused on this. Pilar and
Antonio are surrounded by people who are involved in their dramatic story. A mother
who justifies the situation, a sister who doesn't understand deeply and a son
who sees everything and doesn't say anything. Their relationship is a mixture
of love, fear, dominance.

OUR DISNEY CHANNEL TIMES
If I
mention DISNEY CHANNEL, do you all start
feeling very old? No, please, don’t do it! It’s not been that long since we
were children and we used to watch cartoons on TV. Disney Channel was the
perfect place for some great fun.
I know some
of you still do it, but, you know, you don’t have to worry, I know how to keep
a secret. ;-)
I remember
my friends and I always tried to make impressions of our favourite characters.
We tried to sing like them, dance like them.

YOUNG NERDS GROW UP!
Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein’s posters are hung
on the wall in his bedroom. He puts a pair of glover up not to touch his
brother’s filthy hands. He comes to church with his mother only because “I don’t
believe in God, but I believe in my mother”. We are in 1989 and he is an out of
the ordinary boy, that’s to be expected! Do you understand who I am talking
about? Maybe the photo above has given you a little clue!

VLAD TEPES THE IMPALER
VAMPIRES IN HISTORY
The figure of the vampire is more ancient than the most popular of the vampires, Dracula. In the twelfth century it was believed that the dead people tried to suck blood from the living people. This belief was particularly extended in the British isles and in the orthodox countries where they ignored the destiny of the dead. The great epidemics with their hasty burials helped spreading this thought.

MARC MARQUEZ : A GOD ON TWO WHEELS
A CONTROVERSIAL CHAMPION
Marc Marquez
won the MOTO GP 2017 Championship last weekend, but he is hardly an outsider
within the motoring world.
He won
several championships and he is considered one of the best bikers. This year he
led the championship with more than 30 points of detachment from his rival,
Andrea Dovizioso.
In fact,
Marquez has closed this season with 298 points, 37 more of his opponent, who got
261 points.

TOP 5 FAVOURITE HUNGER GAMES CHARACTERS
Hunger Games is a beloved dystopian book/to screen trilogy and one of my best favourites. Set in future North America, it depicts a society based on twelve districts built around a city called Capitol City. The districts have to supply Capitol City with many different things such as wood, paper, clothes, meat, fish, vegetables...
Many years before the novel begins there had been a revolution between the districts and Capitol City. It had been caused by the oppressive behaviour of Capitol City. Eventually the districts lost the revolution and Capitol City created the Hunger Games to punish them. Every year two people for each district (a male and a female) go into an arena full of weapons. These people are the tributes and they have to fight against each other. They fight till death. Only one of them survives and he becomes the winner.

DISCOVERING IRELAND
Last
summer I went to Ireland for two weeks and I can say that it was one
of the best holidays in my life (till now, of course!!).
I
stayed in a host family in Shankill, South Dublin. My host parents,
Mary and Alan, were very kind and friendly to me. Those 2 weeks have
been amazing also because of them!
But
… let’s stop talking about myself... let's talk about somenthing
interesting that I discovered while in Ireland.
Probably,
you don't know that Ireland enter people's hearts and never leaves
them.
So
I hope you will have the fortune to go there one day. I am sure that
you will agree with me, then.

HAS TECHNOLOGY RUINED OUR LIVES?
Has technology ruined our lives? Should we consider it progression or regression ? We watched two videos in our English lessons, we discussed them together and we also wrote our reflections on the issues they deal with.
In the first video Simon Sinek tells us about Millenials,
people born approximately 1984 and after.
He tells how the Millenials are rarely truly happy or satisfied and that
they are accused of being entitled,
unfocused, lazy and narcissistic. But he also explains that it is not their
fault, there are several different
reasons and one of them is their excessive use of technological devices and
social media. Sunday, 12 November 2017
LEWIS HAMILTON
Happy Sunday, everyone! Today it's F1 day and we are ready to celebrate Hamilton. Yes, because, as you will surely know, he is the new F1 World Champion
with 2 races remaining. He was in competition with Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari’s
first driver and Valterri Bottas, his teammate in Mercedes. This is his fourth
world title after 2008, 2014 and 2015.
So far this year he has won 9 races collecting 333 points, while his
principal rival, Vettel, has 277 points.

REMEMBER, REMEMBER... V FOR VENDETTA
Few days ago it was Guy Fawkes Night in Britain, the 5th of November
national festivity. They celebrate the day a group of Catholic plotters decided
to kill their protestant king, James I. But they actually celebrate the fact
that the king was saved, the plot discovered and the culprits executed.
Anyway, we are not telling
you the story of Guy Fawkes today, only that he is the inspiration of what happens in the
story of one of my favourite comic book, V for Vendetta.

WILL: DISCOVERING SHAKESPEARE’S GLAMOROUS WORLD
There are many theories about
who William Shakespeare was. What makes him unique is that, unlike his contemporaries,
he wasn’t university educated; he was a glove maker. He approached plays and
theatre from a very different background.
Shakespeare wrote plays for
everyone. He was - probably - a Catholic writing plays in a protestant world; he had to be very, very
careful.
He wrote a lot of plays and
people liked them. A lot of people went to see his plays performed in London theatres
and, especially at the Globe theatre
after 1599.
Now, probably you are thinking
about how I can know all these thing. The answer is … yes, I studied something
for school but I have also seen an amazing tv series about Shakespeare: WILL.

HIP-HOP & METAL, CLASHING CULTURES?
If you're
aged between 14 and 20 you must have heard some of those names, and if you
listened to a song from those rappers you would probably remember all the
violence associated with their sound...
Yesterday,
while I was buying two tickets for a live show of Bones - another trap rapper
with a very aggressive sound - I started
wondering on what happened to trap and rap music, and when we started loving this sound. (NB: I'm not talking about the lyrics, those have always been rough
and violent, for example, some of Immortal Technique songs were simply too much to handle).

FOOTBALL MANIA: THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPPORTERS & BEST STADIUMS
Do you often watch
football or other sports
on TV?
If your answer
is YES, and you usually
watch football on tv, you know that supporters are the twelfth man in the field.
Supporters push the team to victory with stadium chants,
thunders and choreographies.
Usually we think that just the most important teams have
fascinating supporters, but this is not true.

TRYING TO COOK ITALIAN
We all know what comes to non-Italians minds while talking about Italy’s food. Yes, food. Maybe Berlusconi sometimes but that’s another story...
There’s plenty of
delicious dishes here and that’s one of the reasons why Italian cuisine has a
lot of charm everywhere.
Italian cuisine is one of the most imitated in the world and this, unfortunately, brought
to the creation of some crazy dishes.

DISCOVERING FOOTBALL STADIUMS
Stadiums are
very important for football teams because they are “home” for
supporters and players. Many of them are famous for the atmosphere created by
fans or for their history. A supporter knows that to see a match at the stadium
is better than at home, because emotions are greater.
