Hi guys, we all know that to be
free and happy we have to be ourselves but for someone it’s not always that
easy! Because for somebody being him/herself can mean to go against society.
This is the case of Jazz Jennings
a young transsexual woman.
I’m going to use only female
pronouns even when telling you about when she was a biologiacal man because in
my opinion you can be whatever you feel even if it doesn’t match the gender you
were born!!!
She was born on the 6th of
October 2000 in south Florida and when she was about five years old she already
knew she was a girl and not a boy so she told her family that she was a transgender girl and
luckily they always supported her. We all know that families do not always
accept and support that kind of things but fortunately she was born in a family
with open-minded opinions and that’s very rare for a Florida family, because
that’s a state known to be a conservative one.
She received national attention
in 2007 thanks to an interwiew with Barbara Walters. For the first time a young
person was able to show her point of view with such innocence because she was
only 7 years old so she had the innocence of a child. In the same year with her
parents she was the co-founder of the TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation to
help transgender children and in 2013 she founded Purple Rainbow Tails, a
company in which she created rubber mermaid tails to raise money to help
economically transgender children during their transitions.
In 2015 the first season of the
documentary/tv-series about her day-times started and was seen by millions of
viewers. The last season, (the fifth), was launched this year and ended with
her gender surgery. Thanks to this tv-series she earned about 10/15 thousand
dollars per episode. The show became so popular that probably next year another
season will be launched. Six years ago Jazz even opened her YouTube channel. (from
which she made around $28,000) .
During an episode of hertv series
Jazz and her two transgender (M to F) friends did a live on Facebook where she
was answering questions. One important question that she was asked was “Have
adults ever bullied you and how did you react to that?” her answer was “Yes”
and she explained that many adults treats her poorly for being a trans. In my
opinion that’s so wrong and horrible. Aduls rapresent the old generation and we
know that many of them aren’t open-minded while they should teach us to respect
everyone and to not consider someone different or inferior just because they
are not like us!
Jazz’s campaign is relevant
because there are many transgender children/teenagers who need money and
support for their transitions.
I admire her from the bottom of
my heart because she is one of the bravest teenager I’ve ever seen. Even if
she’s scared of what people think of her, she is herself and I’m a little
envious of her because I would like to be brave and show trueself like her. In
a society where the words “trans”, “gay” or “lesbian” are used to pull
someone's leg it is so difficult be an LGBT member. I admire them. Jazz is such
an ispiration for us all.
I can’t stand people who say that
you can’t be trans or gay just because they are transphobic and homophobic that
makes no sense. It is like saying I am celiac, you can’t eat cookies! It’s
madness!
