The European Super League is the project for a new competition involving 20 clubs, 15 permanent clubs, the Founding Clubs, and 5 others that would be selected each year according to the results achieved in the previous season in their respective local leagues. That means a league reserved only to the best of the best.
This new project
was signed and presented a couple of months ago and immediately divided the
world of football, so both the fans and various clubs made themselves heard.
I have always
thought that football should belong to everyone and not just to rich people and
I'm all for football. I'm for the dreams
born in the street, I'm for the child who starts with a supersantos outside his house and gets to tread the fields of Serie
A. For this reason, I could never be on the side of those who want to form an
exclusive tournament. It is not clear according to what criteria they would use
to select the participants. If it were
for their trophies, teams like Milan or Arsenal would deserve more than
Atalanta or Sevilla, not to mention Leicester which in recent years has consistently
finished ahead of Arsenal. They want to introduce an NBA model in the world of
football without applying the best part: college-level sports, drafting, salary
caps, and serious financial fair play.
All that makes
us understand that now what is important is money and the only goal they have
is to earn as much as they can. But we have to show that football goes beyond
making money and we have to fight for our favourite sport in order to continue
to love it.
For this reason,
we must fight even the simple idea of a Super League. For this reason we must
be on the side of merit, both in sport and in life.
