LET'S DOODLE! THE ART OF CASUAL DRAWING.

"Doodle" is a word that is becoming more and more common in global speech. But what exactly is it? Doodle means scribble. At the beginning of the twentieth century, it took on its current meaning, probably being confused with another English word with a similar sound, namely "dawdle", which means "to waste time".

None of us are afraid to scribble while talking on the phone or listening to a lecture. Doodling is nothing more than this: creating patterns of intertwined doodles like the ones we do absent-mindedly on the edges of notebooks.

All you need is a marker, a sheet of paper and the ability to be guided by instinct. On the net there are thousands of originalexamples, ideas from which to drawinspiration and to try to developthis "habit" in an artisticsense. You can also start from simpleshapes and build more complex structures around them, or get inspired by works of the past by creating a doodle outline for the faces of famous
paintings from the history of art.

RELAXING OR KEEPING OUR MIND BUSY?

A study by Professor Jackie Andrade, of the University of Plymouth, showed how doing doodling (scribbling during a boring activity) increases concentration and therefore the ability to memorize. In fact, it seems that scribbling balances the levels of arousal which, during periods of boredom, are usually high and do not help to concentrate.

Furthermore, doing doodling frequently is a realex ercise that develops creativity. Creativity is a resource that has more value than we expect, because a creative mind is better at solving problems and finding solutions (at home, at work, in relationships), so itimproves the quality of life.

Doodling relaxes, because these are drawings that have no artistic pretext, so there is no performance anxiety, there is no purpose, if not free expression.

Doing doodling increases self-awareness, because it allows moments for oneself in which to abandon tensions and thoughts, listen to how our body is and what feelings we feel at that moment. In this way, you always get to know each other better, even after the doodling activity.

GOOGLE DOODLES

Years ago the developers of the google search system decided to insert doodles in the logo. Every day when we open google we see drawings, sometimes even very random ones, which are used to remind users of events or anniversaries.

For example, a  very nice one was dedicated to Steven Hawking for his eighty years, but many others have been made and the system is periodically updated by regenerating the doodle art in the logo.

MR DOODLE

Let's talk about artist Sam Cox, the largest doodle producer in the world. The artist in 2020 sold his works for 4.6 billion dollars after being a big success on social networks with images of his works of art and with videos of the realization.

The artist has a well-defined style for making doodle, which modifies the purity of the scribble a bit and at the same time makes his works unique to him.
