He won one silver and five gold medals, becoming the oldest individual gold medalist in Olympic swimming history, as well as the first swimmer to win four consecutive golds in the same event, the 200-meter individual medley.
Great, Micheal Phelps!!! You are incredible but we have our “Italian Phelps”, you know? He is Gregorio Paltrineri! He won a gold medal at Rio 2016.
Gregorio Paltrinieri is a World Champion born in Carpi in 1994 and his parents are Lorraine and Luca Paltrinieri. He is specialized in distance freestyle events – in 2013 Paltrinieri broke the Italian Record in the 1500m freestyle. Standing 6’3″ Paltrinieri began swimming at a very young age, and specialized in the breaststroke until he was 12 years old, but then he shifted his focus to distance freestyle. Although his best events are the 800 and 1500m freestyles, he also swam the 200 freestyle on medal-winning relays.
