The buildings I am about to tell you about will fascinate both design enthusiasts and any other person curious to know what architecture is capable of achieving. According to Emporis (a company that collects data on buildings from around the world) the five tallest skyscrapers in the world, three are in China, one in Saudi Arabia but the first place awaits the United Arab Emirates!

Burj Khalifa - Dubai

The first building is located in Dubai, the world cradle of mind-boggling architectural constructions. Burj Khalifa, also called Burj Dubai, is currently the tallest skyscraper in the world with 829.80 meters. It includes 30,000 houses, 9 hotels, 1 park, 19 residential towers; this structure has 162 floors, 344 thousand square meters of surface, 58 lifts that can reach 40 kilometers per hour and cost 2.5 billion euros! Together with the Burj al-Arab tower, better known as the Dubai sail, it is the most important tourist destination in Dubai and has become one of its greatest symbols.

Shanghai Tower - Shanghai

The second tallest skyscraper in the world is the Shanghai Tower, it is located in China and is 632 meters high, has 128 floors and an area of 380,000 m2. Its originality is given, both by the enveloping design, and by the particular attention paid to sustainability. In fact, inside the tower we find gardens and green spaces. In addition, wind turbines will be located on the roof that will be able to generate up to 350,000 kWh per year of additional electricity. Another particular aspect of the building is its observation deck, which has the distinction of being the tallest in the world. The light reflects on the walls in a different way at every hour of the day, creating particular effects.

Abraj Al Bait - Mecca

Al-Bait Abraj Towers, also known as Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, is a building complex located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The tallest tower measures 601 meters in height and also holds the record for the tallest clock tower in the world (at 400 meters high, its dial is visible from 25 km away). Furthermore, the facade clock in question is the largest in existence. The hotel also has a large prayer room that can hold more than 10 000 people and the complex can provide accommodation for as many as 100 000 people.

Ping An Finance Center – Shenzhen

The Ping An Finance Center is in fourth place in the ranking of the tallest skyscrapers in the world with a height of 599 meters spread over 115 floors. It is located in Shenzhen, China and was completed in 2017. It was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and funded by Ping An Insurance. At the beginning, the project included the construction of a spire that would have brought the structure to a height of 660 meters, but due to the nearby airport it was not possible to build it.

Goldin Finance 117 - Tianjin

In fifth place we find the Goldin Finance 117, also known as China 117 Tower. It is located in Tianjin and has not yet been completed, but has nevertheless reached its expected maximum height of 597 meters by 118 floors. It is nicknamed the magic wand due to its truncated pyramid shape and has been used by many urbex enthusiasts for adrenaline-pumping and breathtaking climbs.
