We live in a period in which it seems that the ethical values and ideals that were reference points for past generations are no longer there. In our age what prevails over the important values of life are money and materialism. Meanwhile, man tends not to see social problems such as unemployment, racism, crime and environmental degradation, continuing in his search for pleasure and luxury, even if in the depths of his soul he feels a sense of dissatisfaction.
Many
young people argue that safe points of reference are lacking and it is also for
this reason that they take everything there is at the moment, refusing sacrifice,
therefore not laying the foundations for a life project.
We
may blame science and technology because they have changed our attitude to life,
our relationships and values such as friendship, altruism, family and respect.
We
live in the age of the internet where young people prefer a virtual online
life, rather than socializing in real life.
In
the internet, you can connect with people you don't know through chat rooms or
social media. Love and friendship can also be found on the web, but there is
also the risk of finding dangerous people.
From
a religious point of view there has been a strong change: once many people went
to church every Sunday, but now only a
few do that, and they are generally old ones.
Everything
changes and, certainly, today's values will
first become habitual over time and then they will change again in the future,
because development and research are what moves the world.
We
should just aim for something better and, also something greener, like clean and
renewable energy. Better human beings and a better home for them is what we all
should be working on.
