Hi guys, today I would like to talk to you about the birth of the famous British fashion brand Burberry
Burberry is an international fashion brand founded in Great Britain in 1856 by Thomas Burberry who, after an apprenticeship in tailoring in a fabric shop, managed to open a shop in Basingstoke. Burberry almost immediately began to turn to a high-ranking clientele, with refined raw materials and cuts of great excellence. The brand became famous for its productions in gabardine, a material invented by Thomas Burberry himself in 1897. Gabardine was an innovation because it was very light but it warmed a lot and therefore was suitable for winter weather.
An important
jump in turnover was due to the request that the brand received from the
British crown to produce British army uniforms to use in the Boer War.
In that period the trench coat also became very famous, which was originally always used in the military environment but which after the First World War also became a style icon for civilian clothing.
Iconic elements
The Burberry trench coat, an original and revolutionary garment, before becoming as we know it today was preceded by the tieloken also designed by Thomas Burberry. The trench coat, on the other hand, was patented in 1912; it was in gabardine, had no buttons and was closed at the waist with a belt. It possessed various accessories useful for attaching military equipment. Functional shoulder straps with rings and windbreak and rainproof flaps.
Another iconic symbol of the brand is undoubtedly the tartan. A print now registered that has become famous for being the lining of modern trenches, but also for appearing on many other elements including cashmere scarves, foulards, shawls and, of course, the trench coat, both in the revisited version - which is widespread and successfully sold also in a female versions - and in the classic one.
