DJ FABIO AND THE RIGHT TO DECIDE ON ONE’S OWN LIFE

FABIO’S SAD STORY
Fabio Antoniani was a famous Italian DJ but he  was known as dj Fabio. He was an ordinary young man until one night in 2014 , when while driving back home after work he was involved in a car crash and shot out of his car.

FABIO’S ODYSSEY
Despite he was quickly rescued, he was left a  paraplegic and completely blind for the rest of his life made of endless pain and frustration. After being a very active, sporty young man all his life, to be a prisoner in his own body was unbearable torture to him.
He wanted to be freed and started thinking about euthanasia. In Italy that is illegal. So he started  fighting for his right to decide about his own life joining  Luca Coscioni ’ s association.
After a year he made appeals to the Italian Parliament  and government asking them to grant him the right to end his life but he didn’t receive any answer  so he decided to end his life in Switzerland where euthanasia is legal.

FABIO’S LAST JOURNEY
After one month,  he left  for Switzerland in the company of his girlfriend and there he was helped to put an end to his miserable life of suffering. The people who accompanied DJ Fabio to Switzerland were accused and prosecuted in Italy.
His friend told that Fabio was calm and serene before dying  and  he also joked but he was anxious only for one thing… he thought he wouldn’t be able to press the button to commit suicide.

NEVER FORGET TO FASTEN YOUR CAR BELTS
Fabio also made a video for his friends and his family, he told that they owed him a favour, to always fasten   their belts while driving or travelling in a car .
R.I.P Fabio.

Lorenzo

P.S. I just wanted to tell you about this sad story which has struck me and made me think. Life is precious and must never be taken for granted.
