Reality Shows
A reality
show is a television entertainment
program in which reality is reported in the form of irony. people of all kinds,
men and women, famous and not, participate
in these programs and being simply themselves and not playing a role, they try to live the reality show to the best
by doing what is proposed to them.
In recent years several funny and intriguing shows have been created in many parts of the world and today I’d like to make a list of the five most absurd among English or American reality shows.
1. I Wanna Marry Prince Harry
This
reality show was intended to set up a competition between twelve American girls
with the possibility of getting engaged to Prince Harry of England. Too bad the
royal scion didn't know anything about it and was replaced in the program by
one of his lookalikes, actor Matthew Hicks. The program was unsuccessful and
was cancelled after 4 episodes because it was followed by very few viewers.
2. Naked and Afraid
Naked and
Afraid has quite an eloquent title: a man and a woman who do not know each
other meet for the first time in a wild location and must survive together for
21 days. Completely naked. The two, in addition to having to overcome each
other's resistance, will have to look for water, build shelters, procure food,
all this under the eye of the cameras and as mom did them. However, the format
was very successful and there were several seasons.
3. Shattered
Shattered
is a glaring example of a bizarre British reality show: aired in 2014 on
Channel 4, it featured ten contestants who had to deprive themselves of sleep
for as long as possible. The winner, in the end, managed to stay without turning
a blind eye for seven and a half days. Which wasn't easy as the production did
everything to invite participants to sleep, such as upholstering the house
where plush bears live together, giving them relaxing massages, and
broadcasting chill-out music. After a few days some competitors began to show
hallucinations, one of them even thought he was the Prime Minister of
Australia.
4. The American Bible Challenge
Bible
Challenge: each season includes nine episodes in which some teams of players
compete in a series of questions and skill tests in which they have to prove
that they know the sacred texts particularly well. The challenge continues
progressively by elimination until we reach the semi-finals and then the final.
Although the concept of departure may seem flat enough, the authors have come
up with several gimmicks to make the religious quiz more compelling, such as
the need in some trials to throw a fork inside a bucket containing the exact
answer to the question asked. All very rural, although the show managed to air
for three seasons and also received some nominations for the Daytime Emmy
awards.
5. Who’s Your Daddy?
The reality show consists of an adult woman, given for
adoption at a very young age, who is put in the same room with 25 men, one of
whom is actually her biological father. If she can guess which one of them is
her father, she'll take home $100,000. The first episode of a planned six-part
series aired on Fox in January 2005, but various factors led the channel not to
broadcast the next few episodes. This was because of the lack of viewers, but
also because of the numerous controversies that the broadcast gave rise to, in
particular by the pro-adoption association.
