THE WOMEN’S MARCH

The Women's March took place on 21 January in Washington DC., the day after Donald Trump inaugurated his time at the White House as the new US President. A march to protest for their rights, to raise awareness of women's rights and other civil rights that are thought to be under attack by the new president Donald Trump. It was such a huge march that it will be remembered as one of the most significant events in American history.

A huge colourful crowd moved from the National Mall gardens  towards the White House, filling the streets of the capital.

A retired lawyer got the idea: Theresa Shook. Last November, worried about Donald Trump's victory, she had posted on Facebook about her idea: "What would happen if women marched all together to Washington on the 'Inauguration Day?". Helped by her son through social media, her idea came true. Surely, she did not think that her little "dream" would achieve so much.

From Washington thousands of people took to the streets wearing the Pussyhat. The pink hat with cat ears became the new symbol of girl power. Not only women were wearing it, but also men and children, journalists, police officers, dogs, cats, puppets and statues.

In the capital, around one million people participated in the protest, making the Women's March one of the protests with more participants.  In addition, this is not the best part: about 5 million people have made their voices heard around the world. When union is strength!

Here are the best signs from the Women's March:

Many stars joined the protest by marching alongside the fans with posters, raising choirs, singing and holding various speeches. Among them America Ferrera, who said: "The president is not the United States. We are the United States and we are here to stay".

However, the strength of the event was to succeed in broadcasting their message not only in many American cities but also in the various capitals of the world. In total, they for their right marches took place over 670 different cities.

  5. As a feminist I have read and watched a lot about this march. I am very interesting in it. I wanted to be in Washington so much. I have a quotes for all of you, not only girls: “FEMINISM is not a dirty word. It does not mean you hate men, it does not mean you hate girls that have nice legs and a tan, and it does not mean you are a ‘bitch’ or ‘dyke’, it means you believe in equality”
