We all know the popular brands that produce super cars: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Maserati, McLaren… but how many of you know these semi-unknown hyper cars, instead? Everyone likes supercars, that’s for sure. But what is the point of owning such an exclusive car if the same car has been produced in hundreds or even thousands of specimens?
COLANI FERRARI TESTA
D’ORO
Designed by Luigi Colani, this car was designed to break the absolute speed record in its category thanks to its aerodynamics at the end of the 1980s . The car was equipped with a Ferrari engine and reached 351 kilometers per hour in 1990, effectively breaking the record. Unfortunately, only one was built, which also disappeared for a period.
MCA CENTENARIE
This
project was born from the mind of the driver Fulvio Ballabbio, who fell in love
with the design of the Lamborghini Countach in the 80s and decided to produce
something similar. The car was sold in a limited series of 5 units at a price
of 200,000 $ each. It was not a great success in the world of racing: he participated in Le Mans in 1993, finishing two minutes behind the cars on the
first grid.
GIOCATTOLO GRUPPO B
Writing down this list, I certainly must think of rally fans like me, to whom I can dedicate this
Toy Group B. The car was made in 1986 from an idea of the Australian
millionaire Paul Halstead, who wanted to compete with the Alfa Romeos of the
time. The car was equipped with a powerful V8 engine and its weight was reduced
to one ton: only 15 were built, which are still almost all operational today.
BERTONE PANTHER
The car was
studied for the 1964 Mille Miglia. In reality, it was only ready in 1968. It was incredibly ahead of its time and its features included a titanium fiber
chassis and a spoiler controlled by the hydraulic system. However, the car
never saw the track despite the initial plans. Unfortunately, the history of
this car reminds us that even a design team with great ideas has to deal with the
economic aspect, still afforded only by more famous brands.
ZENVO TSR-S
More
modern than the others on this list, the TSR-S is the road version of the
TSR, which on the track is a massive car for its size. The interior is very
intimate. You sit a few centimetres above the ground completely swaddled by the
racing seat. The most important innovation in this car is the movable wing,
which follows the car in curves to make it stay closer to the ground.
SPYKER C8 AILERON
The most
beautiful car on this list, in my opinion, and also one of the most beautiful
cars I've ever seen. The Spyker C8 Aileron exhibits a timeless beauty
reminiscent of a classic car, thanks to its perfect proportions and the purity of its surfaces. The Spyker C8 Aileron's power comes from a naturally aspirated Audi
4.2 litre V8 petrol engine.
