“My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people do not know”
Sherlock Holmes’ adventures have always fascinated me. If you love the detective born by Arthur Conan Doyle’s pen too, enjoy the reading!
There are many movies and TV series inspired by Doyle’s stories, some better than others
But it’s fair to be faithful to his old good novels! If you are wondering what is the best one, you should know that it’s a hard choice. Personally, I’d choose:
A Study in Scarlet
What a marvellous story! The first meeting between Holmes and Watson is unforgettable. It would be an exaggeration to say that it was “love at the first sight” but it’s certain that we all love this inseparable couple! It’d be better to say, “friendship at the first sight!!” The way Sherlock solves every mystery makes him a legendary detective. The Science of Deduction is the way, isn’t it?
“When you have eliminated all which is possible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth”
The Hound of The Baskervilles
How about a giant hound persecuting your family? It’s terrible, but Sherlock Holmes is investigating the case! So, Sir Henry Baskerville, you can keep calm! I loved reading it for the first time and I did it over and over again!
THE BEST NEMESIS
Jim Moriarty deserves a paragraph of his own! Every fairy tale needs a good old-fashioned villain just like a functioning sociopath! Their deduction challenges are with no holds barred!
WHAT ABOUT SHORT STORIES?
There are so many memorable short stories which never tire!
The Final Problem
The epic fight between Holmes and Moriarty has started! This is one of the most wonderful stories. Sherlock Holmes’ heroic death is not so easy to forget. When you read it for the first time, you can’t believe it! As this is the best detective on the face of the earth, something’s up!
The Read-Headed League
A mysterious story to read all in one go! This time Sherlock has surpassed himself! At the beginning the plot seems to be simple, a common situation. All changes when Sir Wilson knocks at Holmes and Watson’s door. The sequence of events and Sherlock’s deductions are very intriguing.
(Many read-headed men and among them there are no Weasley!)
THE WOMAN
A Scandal in Bohemia
Sherlock Holmes’s greatest failure, it happens to the best ones too! Was he swindled by an evil genius or a super-clever criminal? Of course not! A woman had a hand in this! For Sherlock Holmes, she is not a common woman, she is “The Woman”. The one, the only, Irene Adler.
“This is how I want you to remember me. The woman who beat you.”
She likes him…OBVIOUSLY! (* heart-shaped eyes*)
ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR WATSON!
This is Sherlock Holmes’ most famous quote, it’s just a shame that he has never said it! Exactly! Holmes just says, “Elementary”!
