WHAT IS A DERBY?

Hi friends ! I'm sure you know what a derby is, but if you don't,  this post is perfect for you and , obviously,  for all the  football fans out there!

 A unique match

A “derby” is a match unlike any other because when you watch one you feel the different emotions - like fear, happiness or disappointment - hugely amplified. But, first of all, it is a match between two teams belonging to the same city or same region that try to win this match to keep the records up and tease the losers.

What happens in Italy? 

For example, in Italy there are several derby matches like Lazio-Roma , Milan-Inter and Juventus-Torino. These three matches are the most heartfelt and widely discussed in the Italian championship.

My favourite derby is Lazio-Roma because I am a Lazio fan. When I watch Lazio-Roma I’m always afraid of losing that , because after it my friends, who are Roma fans, make fun of me and I get furious after being disappointed!

Last week there was Lazio-Roma and I was very excited and happy because Lazio won 2-0 thanks to Immobile’s and Milinkovic ’s goals. So for once I could tease my friends and they told me:”There is still the return match and we can beat you”.

What about England? 

In England the derby matches are even more exciting because in English football there are stronger teams than in Italian football. For example, Manchester’s derby between Manchester United and Manchester City or London’s derby between Arsenal and Chelsea. Those are matches which draw lots of attention and interest from the media and the press because they are particularly exciting. One day I hope I will go to Manchester or London to see a spectacular derby.

In my opinion Manchester’s derby and Roma’s derby are the most beautiful and exciting in the world.
