THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE NATURAL WORLD

Hi guys! We are Francesco and Nicolo’ and, in this post, we are going to talk about a very interesting topic. In 2008, the Seven Natural Wonders (an American association) put together a list of ecological beauties. Most people call these the “Seven Wonders of the Natural World”.

First of all, let’s examine in depth what the role of “Seven Natural Wonders” project is. It’s an organization created to protect and promote the natural wonders of the world, having established to defend the original being of the seven natural wonders. The wonders’ list includes:

AURORA BOREALIS (or THE NORTHERN LIGHT): it is a natural light displayed in the sky. In the past there was an amazing theory to explain this amazing event: the theory talked about the Valkyries who rode their flying horses equipped with helmets, spears and armours that glowed and shimmered in the darkness. These lights used to colour the sky with red, blue, violet and green, spreading in curtains from horizon to horizon, fascinating the people watching.

HARBOUR OF RIO DE JANEIRO: a wonderful bay surrounded by a huge and bizarre mountain chain that astound every tourist and visitor. Today, the harbour hosts many beaches (as Copa Cabana) which are among the most popular destinations for younger travellers and inhabitants.

GREAT BARRIER REEF: it is situated off the coast of Australia and it is the largest structure created by living organisms. In this area there are a lot of protected species, reason for which the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This organization is aimed to limit the damaging impact of the human use, such as fishing and tourism.

GRAND CANYON: it is a steep-side canyon carved by the Colorado river in the State of Arizona. Even though it is more than a mile deep, from the top to the bottom, the Grand Canyon isn’t the deepest gorge in the world, being certainly the most spectacular one.

MOUNT EVEREST: it  is the Earth’s highest mountain. It attracts many climbers, some of them highly experienced mountaineers, while some others simply curious tourists. Climbing this mountain means embarking on real adventure in which many people die during the path towards the top. Three are the main reasons for accidents and deaths: falls, extreme cold and lack of oxygen.

PARICUTIN (VULCAN OF PARICUTIN): it is in Mexico and has an odd story. Effectively, it’s surged suddenly from the cornfield of a local farmer in 1943, drawing soon the attention of scientists and curious people.

VICTORIA FALLS: it is a waterfall in Southern Africa on the Zambesi river, a natural border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is a wonderful natural attraction full of amazing flora and fauna, found out in 1855 by David Livingstone who became the first European to see the mighty falls. It is a fascinating place to visit and attracts photographers and naturalists from all over the world.

So, what is your favourite wonder? And which of these would you like to visit?
