LIONEL MESSI’S BISHT

Argentina has just won the World Cup. Messi is ready to raise the cup that any football fan dreams of. But ... wait! The Emir covers the Argentine captain with a black cape, the Bisht. That's rather weird.  So I start wondering what that piece of clothing is or means. Do you know?  I'll tell you about it soon, but first, let's step back for a while.

WORLD’S MOST WANTED

Recently I happened to read an article about Interpol, the police who fight international crime. When a person commits a crime in a country but is not found in that same place, the local authorities send a report to Interpol. The criminal becomes a fugitive and is considered a menace to the world.

So, I made a research about who are (or were)  the most wanted fugitives in the world because I think it’s important to know who can potentially hide among us.

Since there are so many, I had to pick  up a few and I decided to write about 5 of them.

CABLEGATE AND THE STORY OF JULIAN ASSANGE

On November 28th, 2010 theWikiLeaks website published more than 250,000 secret documents, which U.S. embassies had sent to the central government, containing "sensitive" information about U.S. operations and relations with foreign governments. This was the beginning of “Cablegate”, which would cause no small embarrassment to the U.S. administration, then led by Barak Obama and already put to the test in the preceding months by the release, again by WikiLeaks, of tens of thousands of documents (including a 17-minute video that became famous as Collateral Murder) showing how the U.S.-led fight against terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan was mostly carried out with indiscriminate killings, torture and war crimes of various kinds.

CARPE DIEM

Carpe Diem is a Latin aphorism, usually translated as "Seize the Day" in English, taken from the Roman poet Horace's Odes (23 BC).

Last year I studied this poem and now that  I'm in my last year of school I know what I want to do in the future. But many people still have confused ideas about what they want to do and become. The meaning of this poem helped me understand a lot about myself and what I really want to do in my life.

PIZZA, UNESCO HERITAGE

Why has our pizza become UNESCO heritage?

Who doesn’t know Italian pizza or  doesn’t like it? Everybody  loves  it, all are fans of Italian pizza, or more precisely,   Neapolitan pizza and now it has even been certificated.

Pizza is the most widely known and eaten food in the world and that best identifies Italy. Every day in our country about 5 million pizzas are baked, while 5 billion are sold all over the world. It was born in 1889, when the Neapolitan chef, Raffaele Esposito,  was summoned by Queen Margherita to prepare her famous favourite pizzas. The pizzaiolo then prepared a classic pizza in her honour with tomato, mozzarella and basil, which represented the colours of the Italian flag. So, December 7, 2017 is a historic date for Italy: on this date UNESCO proclaimed pizza, or rather, the art of Neapolitan pizzaiuoli, World Heritage.

STREET ART

How did it start?

Street art was born around the 70s in the suburbs of New York. But only around 2000, there is a real diffusion. It was born as a sign of protest and revolt. In the early years street art was seen as an expression of vandalism, but today it is considered real form of art, though always in the background if compared to traditional art. St
reet art shouldn’t be confused with graffiti, which are a separate category.

This book starts with the death of Ivan Ilyich, a member of the appeals court. His colleagues, hearing of his death, do not show displeasure. Actually, everyone hopes to take his place.
